đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Digital Assets Compliance expert at Column, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing our compliance framework for innovative crypto products. This role is pivotal in ensuring Column operates at the forefront of regulatory adherence while fostering groundbreaking financial technology.
  • • You will serve as a dedicated subject matter expert, possessing deep specialization in digital assets and their intersection with banking regulations, particularly under the GENIUS Act and other federal guidelines.
  • • Your primary responsibility will be to execute investigations and actively support the ongoing development of practical, scalable systems that safeguard the bank's integrity and enable responsible innovation.
  • • This is not a passive compliance role; we seek a proactive builder who understands that robust compliance is a strategic advantage, unlocking critical partnerships, accelerating product development, and cultivating trust with both regulators and customers.
  • • You will be embedded within our financial crimes team, taking ownership of how the bank monitors and controls for Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and sanctions risks associated with our stablecoin infrastructure, payment rails, and crypto-enabled banking products.
  • • Your expertise will be crucial in developing and refining our monitoring and control mechanisms for digital asset transactions, ensuring they meet stringent regulatory expectations while remaining agile and efficient.
  • • You will conduct extensive investigations into transaction monitoring and screening alerts, meticulously analyzing potential instances of money laundering, fraud, or terrorist financing.
  • • Prepare and meticulously document the triage of investigations and their final dispositions, adhering strictly to FInCEN, FFIEC expectations, and internal Bank Procedures.
  • • Review transaction and wallet screening reports to identify potential Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) violations, escalating any potential true positives to the Bank's BSA Officer for further action.
  • • Operate and maintain the AML/BSA monitoring capabilities specifically designed for stablecoin and crypto payment products, ensuring full compliance with the GENIUS Act, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements, and Column's established AML program.
  • • Refine and continuously enhance a comprehensive sanctions compliance program tailored for digital assets, incorporating advanced blockchain analytics, robust wallet screening, and targeted sanctions risk management for crypto payment flows.
  • • Expand and optimize our existing suspicious activity monitoring (SAM) and sanctions screening tools and processes, integrating digital asset-specific workflows to create a seamless and effective compliance ecosystem.
  • • Act as the primary AML subject matter expert, collaborating closely with product and engineering teams to embed compliance considerations into the design and development of our stablecoin infrastructure.
  • • Translate complex regulatory requirements into concrete, actionable technical specifications, ensuring that our systems can effectively meet demands such as freezing tokens within a specified timeframe following a court order.
  • • Conduct thorough compliance reviews of new product features and potential partnerships prior to their official launch, mitigating risks and ensuring regulatory alignment.
  • • Partner effectively with our broader bank compliance team to guarantee that our specialized crypto program integrates seamlessly with Column's existing BSA/AML framework, maintaining a unified approach to compliance.
  • • Define critical data requirements and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure the appropriate collection and retention of information essential for compliance monitoring and investigative purposes.
  • • Document all procedures and controls in a manner that promotes self-service, fosters understanding, and scales effectively as the company grows.
  • • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to ensure all relevant teams possess a clear understanding of their compliance obligations within the digital assets space.
  • • This role requires a first-principles thinker capable of designing robust systems from the ground up, rather than merely executing pre-existing playbooks.
  • • You will leverage strong technical aptitude, working hand-in-hand with engineering teams to architect compliance directly into product development.
  • • A comfort level with operating in ambiguity and making sound, risk-based decisions with potentially incomplete information is essential.
  • • High emotional intelligence (EQ) and exceptional stakeholder management skills are crucial for building and maintaining trust with regulators, auditors, and internal teams.
  • • This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of digital asset compliance within a rapidly evolving financial landscape, contributing directly to Column's mission of simplifying and fixing the banking supply chain.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 4-5 years of experience in financial crimes compliance, with a minimum of 3 years specifically focused on digital assets, crypto, or blockchain-related compliance, including hands-on experience in investigations.
  • • Expert knowledge of BSA/AML requirements and their practical application to digital assets under current regulatory and industry standards.
  • • Strong understanding of stablecoin mechanics, underlying blockchain technology, and the intricacies of crypto payment flows.
  • • First-principles thinking ability to design robust systems from scratch, coupled with strong technical aptitude for collaborating with engineering teams.
  • • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and make informed, risk-based decisions with incomplete information.
  • • High emotional intelligence (EQ) and proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust across diverse groups including regulators, auditors, and internal teams.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Generous family planning and fertility benefits through a partnership with Carrot, including up to $20,000 in reimbursement for qualified expenses.
  • • Up to $2,000 (post-tax) monthly rent subsidy for employees residing within 2 miles of Column's San Francisco office.
  • • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options for pre-tax medical and dependent care expenses.
  • • 401k plan with self-directed brokerage options for investment flexibility.
  • • A flexible time-off policy designed to allow employees to take the time they need to relax and recharge.
  • • 100% paid parental leave, including 16 weeks for birth mothers, 12 weeks for primary caregivers, and 8 weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • • Up to $4,500 in annual reimbursements for backup childcare needs.
  • • Catered lunches and dinners provided for employees based in San Francisco.
