- • As Director, Government Affairs for SEA & India at Airwallex, you will shape and execute the company’s public policy strategy across Southeast Asia and India, directly influencing regulatory outcomes that enable Airwallex’s global payments and financial platform to scale responsibly and innovatively in complex, high-growth markets.
- • You will develop and own a comprehensive government affairs and public policy strategy for SEA and India, aligning it with Airwallex’s global priorities while partnering cross-functionally with legal, product, data, and regional leadership to educate policymakers on the company’s product suite and economic impact.
- • You will identify and prioritise policy, legislative, and regulatory issues affecting Airwallex in payments, financial services licensing, digital assets, data privacy, competition, and innovation, providing regular insights and recommendations to regional and global leadership on political and regulatory developments.
- • You will build and maintain trusted relationships with key government stakeholders, regulators, central banks, competition and consumer authorities, and industry associations across SEA and India, leading advocacy efforts to ensure Airwallex’s perspectives are clearly understood and credibly represented.
- • You will represent Airwallex at hearings, consultations, roundtables, and industry forums, sometimes acting as spokesperson on government and policy matters, while collaborating with the communications team to develop core policy narratives and brand positioning for the region.
- • You will monitor, interpret, and summarise policy and regulatory changes affecting products and operations—including payments, issuing, cross-border FX, digital wallets, data, and privacy—and translate complex developments into clear, actionable guidance for Legal & Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations, and Commercial teams.
- • You will work closely with Country/GM leadership, Legal & Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations, Communications, and Public Affairs to ensure a coordinated external engagement strategy, aligning narratives, campaigns, and media on policy and regulatory topics.
- • You will leverage your existing network across government, regulatory, and industry stakeholders to drive constructive engagement, preparing submissions, policy papers, consultation responses, briefings, and speeches on complex issues to deliver tangible policy or regulatory outcomes.
- • You will operate with founder-like energy, moving seamlessly from high-level strategic thinking to hands-on execution, demonstrating resilience, proactivity, and ownership in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while using AI to work smarter and solve problems faster.
- • You will grow your career by tackling complex, high-visibility problems alongside exceptional teammates in a mission-driven culture that values curiosity, first-principles thinking, and real impact, helping build the future of global banking and financial infrastructure.
🎯 Requirements
- • 12+ years of experience as a government affairs or public policy leader with deep familiarity with the SEA and India policy and regulatory landscape, ideally in financial services, payments, fintech, or adjacent regulated sectors.

- • Demonstrated track record of delivering policy or regulatory outcomes through constructive engagement with senior officials, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues and craft persuasive arguments for diverse audiences.
- • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, comfortable engaging senior government officials, regulators, and internal executives at all levels.
- • Highly proactive, organised, and resilient, with a bias to action and ownership in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
