We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Director of Product Design to spearhead the design strategy and execution for our critical Business Accounts domain. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of how businesses manage their finances globally, encompassing core functionalities such as cash accounts, international transfers, high-yield offerings, and credit experiences.
• • As the Director of Product Design for Business Accounts, you will be instrumental in defining a clear, opinionated design strategy that guides customers in understanding and utilizing our financial products as their organizations grow. You will collaborate closely with Product Management leaders to meticulously frame complex problems, prioritize strategic opportunities, and ensure that design thinking is integrated from the earliest stages of product strategy development, rather than being an afterthought during execution.
• • A key responsibility will be to establish a seamless and intuitive user experience for moving money into, within, and out of the Airwallex platform. This foundational element will serve as a robust platform upon which other product areas, such as spend management and subscription billing, can be effectively built, creating a cohesive and powerful financial ecosystem for our users.
• • You will lead the end-to-end experience design process for your team's products and features. This encompasses overseeing critical design phases including user research, object modeling, interaction design, rigorous usability testing, and the final UI design. Your leadership will ensure that the user experience is not only functional but also delightful and aligned with Airwallex's commitment to innovation.
• • A significant focus of this role is to elevate the quality bar for our complex, data-rich financial interfaces. You will set and maintain world-class standards for UX and UI quality across intricate screens such as detailed tables, insightful charts, reconciliation views, and approval workflows. Ensuring that the design is robust, polished, and consistent across desktop, mobile web, and native mobile applications is paramount.
• • You will champion a rigorous discovery and validation practice, ensuring your teams leverage user research, A/B testing, and product analytics to gain deep insights into customer behavior and validate design decisions. This data-driven approach will ensure that our product development is always aligned with user needs and business objectives.
• • Building and nurturing a collaborative, growth-oriented design practice is central to this role. You will actively shape the team's rituals, feedback mechanisms, and shared standards to foster strong connections among designers across different regions and product domains, promoting a unified and supportive design culture.
• • Collaboration with the design systems team is essential. You will ensure that your team's experiences effectively utilize and contribute to our shared design system patterns, promoting consistency and efficiency across the Airwallex product suite.
• • On the people leadership front, you will manage and develop a high-performing team of senior and staff-level product designers situated in our Sydney and Singapore design studios. This involves setting clear expectations for their impact, craft, and ownership, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the team's collective success.
• • You will cultivate healthy and effective partnerships between design, product, and engineering teams. This involves developing collaborative ways of working that maximize productivity, ensuring design is involved from the initial problem framing through to product launch and ongoing iteration.
• • The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of complex, system-heavy products, ideally within B2B SaaS, developer platforms, or financial/payments domains. Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or treasury products, particularly with business accounts and global money movement, is highly desirable.
• • You will be adept at thinking at both the screen and system levels, considering flows, states, permissions, object relationships, and edge cases to create robust and scalable solutions. Your leadership will be characterized by the ability to set vision, align diverse stakeholders, and drive multi-quarter initiatives across multiple teams and domains.
• • Comfort in debating trade-offs with senior product and engineering leaders, and a pragmatic approach to advocating for customer outcomes, are essential.
