• • As the Director of Product Design for Payments at Airwallex, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of global business payments. This pivotal role involves defining and executing the design strategy for our core payments platform, a critical component that enables businesses worldwide to accept payments seamlessly across various currencies, methods, and markets. You will be at the forefront of innovation, leading the design for key functionalities such as global e-commerce transactions, point-of-sale systems, one-click checkout experiences, and the essential risk and compliance-related interfaces that ensure secure and regulated operations.
• • Your responsibilities will extend to owning the end-to-end user experience, encompassing everything from initial research and conceptualization to detailed interaction design, rigorous user testing, and polished UI design. You will be tasked with elevating the quality bar across complex, data-rich interfaces, including intricate tables, insightful charts, detailed reconciliation views, and approval workflows. The expectation is for your team's work to be robust, polished, and consistent across desktop, mobile web, and native mobile applications, ensuring a unified and high-quality user experience regardless of the platform.
• • A significant aspect of this role involves driving a disciplined discovery and validation process. You will ensure your teams leverage user research, A/B testing, and product analytics to gain a deep understanding of customer behavior, translating these insights into actionable design improvements. Furthermore, you will foster a collaborative and growth-oriented design practice, establishing effective rituals, feedback mechanisms, and shared standards that promote connection and knowledge sharing among designers across different regions and product domains.
• • Collaboration is key, and you will work closely with product and engineering leaders within the Payments and Risk teams. You will lead a high-performing team of product designers, nurturing their talent and guiding them in building powerful payment experiences, intuitive APIs, and efficient workflows. This includes integrating with our design systems and platform patterns, working with the design system team to ensure consistency and leverage shared components.
• • Beyond design execution, you will be a key people leader. You will manage and develop a team of senior and staff-level product designers located in our London and Singapore design studios. This involves setting clear expectations for their impact, craft, and ownership, fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional growth. You will also cultivate healthy and effective partnerships between design, product, and engineering teams, establishing ways of working that maximize productivity and ensure design is involved from the initial problem framing through to launch and ongoing iteration.
• • The role demands a visionary approach to product and design strategy. You will define a clear, opinionated strategy for how customers interact with and understand our financial products, including cash, high-yield, and credit accounts, as well as inter-account transfers, as their organizations scale. You will partner closely with Product Management leaders to frame complex problems, prioritize strategic opportunities, and ensure design is integrated early in the product strategy lifecycle, rather than being an afterthought during the execution phase. A core objective is to establish the seamless movement of money into, within, and out of Airwallex as a foundational user experience upon which other product areas, such as spend management and subscription billing, can be built.
