Director of Quality Assurance

📋 Description

• • Own the end-to-end QA vision for a high-growth insurtech platform that protects millions of families. You will architect and scale a modern, AI-enabled quality program that keeps pace with daily releases, feature-flagged rollouts, and a microservices architecture running on GCP.
• • Build and lead a distributed QA team (manual, automation, SDET, and data-quality analysts) across multiple squads. Hire, coach, and retain top talent while fostering a culture of craftsmanship, psychological safety, and continuous learning.
• • Define and track quality KPIs—defect escape rate, MTTR, test coverage, performance SLAs, and customer-reported issues—and present actionable insights to the CTO and executive team every sprint.
• • Drive shift-left practices by embedding QA engineers in discovery, grooming, and design reviews; champion risk-based test planning, contract testing, and automated quality gates in GitHub Actions so that every PR is production-ready.
• • Design and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using Playwright/Cypress for React front ends, Postman/newman for REST/GraphQL APIs, and Locust/k6 for performance. Integrate tests into CI/CD so releases can ship multiple times a day with confidence.
• • Ensure bulletproof accuracy of life-insurance calculations, underwriting rules, and regulatory reports. Build data-validation suites that cross-reference 50+ external data sources and reconcile premium tables to the penny.
• • Partner with Security & Compliance to create automated SOC 2, GDPR, and state-insurance-regression test packs. Lead quarterly pen-test remediations and maintain evidence packages for external auditors.
• • Collaborate with Customer Success and enterprise clients to run joint UAT cycles, provide test data sandboxes, and publish SLAs that keep NPS above 70. You will occasionally present the QA roadmap to Fortune 500 carrier partners.
• • Evangelize AI-augmented testing—generative test-case creation, self-healing selectors, anomaly detection on production logs—and measure ROI to justify further investment.
• • Manage risk through chaos engineering, blue-green deployments, and canary analysis; ensure 99.9 % uptime for quote-to-issue flows that generate real-time life-insurance policies.
• • Contribute to the broader Engineering leadership team, influencing architecture decisions, OKRs, and annual budgeting while maintaining a player-coach mentality that keeps you close to the code.
