Founded by former National Security Agency (NSA) cyber operations experts, we bring national security-grade solutions to commercial clients globally. Currently in a hyper-growth phase, fueled by a recent $190 million Series C funding round, we are seeking a visionary Director of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to lead our critical infrastructure and reliability initiatives.
• As the Director of SRE, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing the strategy for our cloud infrastructure, ensuring its scalability, availability, and cost-efficiency. This pivotal role demands a blend of strong leadership, deep hands-on technical expertise in SRE and cloud technologies, and a strategic understanding of financial optimization within a high-growth technology company. You will be the guardian of our systems' reliability, performance, and economic viability, working collaboratively across engineering, security, and product departments to uphold our commitment to excellence.
• Your primary responsibility will be to lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of our cloud-based infrastructure, which spans AWS, Azure, or GCP. This involves establishing and enforcing SRE best practices across the board. You will be tasked with enhancing our observability, monitoring, and alerting capabilities to ensure the swift identification and resolution of any reliability issues. A key focus will be on driving an automation-first philosophy, significantly reducing manual interventions through the strategic use of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and robust CI/CD pipelines. This will not only improve efficiency but also enhance system stability and security.
• In this leadership capacity, you will manage and mentor a team of talented SREs, DevOps engineers, and cloud infrastructure specialists. You will embody Blackpoint Cyber's core management values: Coach, Model, and Care. This means setting clear, business-critical outcomes, developing actionable plans to achieve them, and providing unwavering support to your team as they navigate complex challenges and strive for success. You will also continue to contribute hands-on to SRE tasks, ensuring you remain connected to the technical realities and challenges faced by your team.
• A significant aspect of this role involves the optimization of our Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and overall cloud spending. You will be responsible for monitoring cloud expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings through strategies like right-sizing instances, leveraging spot instances, and optimizing storage solutions, all without compromising system reliability or performance. Close collaboration with finance and procurement teams will be essential for accurate infrastructure cost forecasting and aligning expenses with strategic business objectives.
• You will play a crucial role in embedding reliability into our development lifecycle. This involves partnering closely with engineering teams to design architectures that are inherently scalable and resilient. You will also collaborate with security teams to ensure our infrastructure meets stringent compliance requirements, implement robust security hardening measures, and maintain readiness for disaster recovery scenarios. Driving thorough post-incident reviews will be key to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning from every event.
• The Director of SRE will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of critical infrastructure components, including automated attack infrastructure deployment, secure and isolated identity and productivity environments, and robust secure data storage solutions. You will also establish and enforce security hygiene and monitoring policies to align with Blackpoint Cyber's rigorous security standards, ensuring our systems are protected against evolving threats.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, or Cloud Infrastructure roles, demonstrating a deep understanding of system architecture and operational excellence.
• 5+ years of proven experience in people management, specifically leading and mentoring SRE teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Extensive hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with a strong emphasis on cost management, scaling strategies, and optimizing cloud resource utilization.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi, enabling automated and repeatable infrastructure deployments.
• Deep understanding and practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, and related tooling.
• Expertise in implementing and managing comprehensive monitoring, logging, and observability solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk) for proactive issue detection and resolution.
• Demonstrated ability to significantly optimize cloud costs (COGS) while maintaining high levels of reliability, availability, and performance.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, collaboration, and complex problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• Experience in defining and working with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) to measure and improve system performance.
• Proven track record of driving "engineering efficiency" through the development and implementation of self-serve tooling and platforms for engineering teams.
