📋 Description
- • As the Director of Operational Risk at Coinbase, you will be instrumental in shaping and maturing a critical global second-line defense function. This high-impact leadership role reports directly to the VP of Financial & Operational Risk and is pivotal in ensuring Coinbase effectively identifies, assesses, and manages its operational risks and resiliency as the company continues its rapid global expansion.
- • You will lead the charge in evolving the operational risk management framework across the entire organization, establishing best practices and ensuring robust governance. This involves developing and implementing strategies to proactively identify and measure operational risks, moving beyond reactive measures to a more predictive and preventative stance.
- • A core responsibility will be managing and enhancing the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program. You will drive the process for identifying control deficiencies, assessing their impact, and recommending prioritized, best-practice controls to ensure operational risk remains within the company's defined appetite.
- • You will be responsible for the development and ongoing monitoring of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs). This data-driven approach will provide senior leadership and the Board with crucial, actionable insights into the company's operational health, enabling informed decision-making and strategic planning.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves evolving the operational incident management process. This includes leading thorough root cause analyses for significant incidents, conducting scenario stress testing to understand potential impacts, and meticulously tracking remediation efforts to prevent the recurrence of systemic failures or losses.
- • You will play a key role in evaluating the operational readiness and risk profile of all new business initiatives. This proactive assessment ensures that new products, services, and market entries are launched with a clear understanding of potential risks and with appropriate mitigation strategies in place.
- • This position also oversees Operational Resiliency, encompassing business continuity and crisis management. You will embed resiliency principles into the product lifecycle, ensuring that Coinbase can maintain critical services through various disruptions, aligning with global standards and evolving regulatory requirements.
- • You will collaborate extensively with Technology Risk, Enterprise Risk, and product and engineering teams across the company. This cross-functional partnership is essential for a holistic approach to risk management and for fostering a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization.
- • The role demands a leader who can effectively challenge first-line owners while acting as a collaborative business partner. This balance is crucial for driving accountability and ensuring that risk management is integrated into daily operations.
- • You will translate complex operational failures and risk landscapes into clear, concise, and actionable insights for senior stakeholders, including executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- • The ability to navigate ambiguity, operate flexibly in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, and drive effective solutions is paramount. This role is for someone who thrives on solving the company's hardest problems and is eager to leave their mark on the future of the global financial system.
- • By strengthening our operational risk and resiliency capabilities, you will directly contribute to Coinbase's mission of increasing economic freedom in the world, enabling the business to scale safely and sustainably.
