📋 Description

• Front is seeking a visionary Director, Product Design to lead the evolution of its customer operations platform, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience for complex B2B relationships. This pivotal role is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the product, fostering the growth and development of the design team, and ensuring users remain delighted with Front's innovative approach, moving them away from traditional inbox experiences.
• As a hands-on leader, you will be the primary architect of how Front integrates and leverages new AI tools across the design lifecycle. This includes spearheading the advancement of our design system, crafting visually appealing and user-centric interfaces, and actively gathering customer feedback to drive continuous improvement. You will lead by example, demonstrating a deep understanding of complex product challenges, such as queues, routing/assignment, rules/automation, and analytics, and translating them into designs that feel fast, clear, and intuitive for users.
• A core responsibility will be to champion and evolve Front's design system, driving it towards a cutting-edge, AI-centric paradigm. This initiative aims to foster enhanced collaboration between designers and engineers, enabling them to ship features at an accelerated pace, potentially 2-3 times faster. You will be instrumental in defining an AI-first design approach, rapidly moving from conceptualization to code through the creation of high-fidelity prototypes that leverage AI to streamline development. Your role extends beyond simply adopting new tools for faster iteration; you will be setting new industry standards for how AI-driven experiences should be perceived and function, without compromising on the paramount importance of quality.
• You will serve as the unwavering champion of design quality, establishing clear benchmarks for excellence and ensuring that design remains a critical differentiator for Front. This involves a deep dive into design decisions, grounding them in user insights and strategic objectives rather than subjective preferences. Your leadership will be crucial in building and mentoring a design team that embraces an agile and solution-oriented process. You possess the intuition to prioritize shipping tangible value and the leadership acumen to significantly elevate the team's overall output and impact.
• Furthermore, you will drive operational excellence within the design function by refining the entire design process from inception to completion. This includes reimagining how design teams utilize AI tools, from the initial stages of customer research and insight gathering, through the creation of high-fidelity prototypes, to the final engineering handoff. Your ability to influence executives will be paramount, acting as a dedicated advocate for the user. You will translate intricate design decisions into clear, compelling business outcomes that resonate with and are impossible for stakeholders to ignore.
• You will be instrumental in building the future of Front's product by leveraging advanced tooling not merely for demonstration, but for the critical validation of hypotheses, the alignment of diverse stakeholders, and the facilitation of rapid, informed decision-making. 🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of Product Design experience overseeing multiple work streams.
• Proven track record of building and maintaining scalable design systems for complex, data-heavy applications.
• Demonstrated leadership experience improving both team performance and product quality, with a strong desire to remain hands-on as a designer.
• Experience shipping products known for high-craft and ambitious designs.
• Practical leadership experience in complex product environments (queues, routing/assignment, rules/automation, analytics).
