Engineering Manager

📋 Description

• • Lead a high-impact engineering team at GlossGenius, the fastest-growing vertical SaaS platform for beauty and wellness entrepreneurs. You will own the technical roadmap for one of our core product pillars—payments, scheduling, marketing, or analytics—and directly influence how 40,000+ small business owners run their day-to-day operations.
• • Translate ambitious product vision into executable engineering plans. You will partner with Product, Design, and Data to set quarterly OKRs, break them into sprint-level deliverables, and ensure your team ships reliable, secure, and delightful features every two weeks.
• • Build and scale a distributed, remote-first engineering organization. You will recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier talent across backend, frontend, and mobile disciplines, creating career ladders, onboarding playbooks, and feedback loops that keep engineers engaged and growing.
• • Champion technical excellence and operational rigor. You will institute code-review standards, automated testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and on-call rotations that reduce incidents and accelerate deployment velocity from days to minutes.
• • Drive data-informed decision making. You will instrument product metrics, A/B tests, and service-level indicators so the team can measure impact, iterate quickly, and celebrate wins with concrete numbers.
• • Foster an inclusive, high-psychological-safety culture. You will run blameless post-mortems, sponsor internal tech talks, and ensure every engineer—regardless of location or background—has a voice in architectural debates and product strategy.
• • Own the reliability and security of mission-critical systems processing hundreds of millions in payments annually. You will partner with our Security and Compliance teams to maintain SOC 2, PCI-DSS, and GDPR standards while still shipping at startup speed.
• • Collaborate with Customer Success and Support to turn user pain points into engineering opportunities. You will join customer calls, review Zendesk tickets, and prioritize bug fixes that materially improve the daily lives of salon owners and independent stylists.
• • Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost and performance. You will work with DevOps to right-size AWS resources, adopt spot instances, and leverage auto-scaling so we can reinvest savings into new product bets.
• • Evangelize GlossGenius engineering externally. You will represent the company at meetups, conferences, and on our tech blog, sharing lessons learned from scaling Ruby on Rails, React Native, and event-driven microservices.
• • Contribute to strategic company initiatives such as international expansion, embedded fintech products, and AI-driven marketing automation. You will prototype new architectures, run spike investigations, and present findings to the executive team.
• • Balance short-term delivery with long-term technical health. You will allocate 20% of sprint capacity to refactoring, dependency upgrades, and developer-experience tooling so the codebase remains joyful to work in—even as the team grows 3×.
• • Report directly to the VP of Engineering and serve as a key member of the Engineering Leadership Team. You will participate in quarterly planning, head-count budgeting, and cross-functional OKR alignment sessions that shape the trajectory of the entire company.
