- • Lead a team of Backend Software Engineers responsible for Bestow’s communications infrastructure, including the Document Creation Service and Notification Service.
- • Remain hands-on in the code, contributing production-level code for approximately 20% of your time, including system design, architecture decisions, and pull request reviews.
- • Own the end-to-end document generation pipeline: templating, PDF rendering, carrier- and product-specific document configuration, and template lifecycle management.
- • Lead multi-channel notification delivery across email, SMS, and physical mail, integrating third-party providers such as Lob, SendGrid, and Twilio.
- • Design and implement failure handling for communications: classify provider errors (4xx vs 5xx), build retry logic, manage bounces and complaints, and establish operational alerting.
- • Build compliance-driven infrastructure for regulatory disclosures, required notices, document verification, and end-to-end audit trails for document delivery.
- • Implement delivery observability: expose delivery failures in data feeds, enforce idempotent retries, and create custom monitoring and eventing for template processing.
- • Drive operational improvements including automation of carrier template onboarding, reducing manual intervention, and streamlining the document-to-delivery lifecycle.
- • Partner with Product Managers, Compliance, Legal, and external delivery partners to develop and support solutions for regulatory and customer communications.
- • Collaborate across teams to plan and execute the product roadmap, balancing technical excellence with business objectives.
- • Orchestrate engineering ceremonies that promote collaboration and continuous improvement.
- • Create personalized growth plans for each team member, identifying strengths and development areas, and provide regular, constructive feedback.
- • Ensure AI-generated code adheres strictly to microservice design principles and compliance frameworks while leveraging GenAI developer tools to accelerate CI/CD and template onboarding automation.
- • Maintain deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle: feature inception, system maintenance, continuous integration, release strategies, and SLA adherence.
- • Contribute changes to the team’s codebase at any time, demonstrating fluency in Go, PostgreSQL, gRPC, REST, and async messaging patterns.
- • Operate workloads on Kubernetes in Google Cloud Platform, with familiarity in Docker for local development.
- • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- • Demonstrate end-to-end ownership mentality, strong problem-solving abilities, and a detail-oriented approach to system reliability and compliance.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
- • 8+ years professional experience in the software industry, with at least 3 years of management experience while maintaining strong coding skills
- • Professional experience with Go preferred
- • Familiar with modern, scalable system architectures (load balancing, horizontal scaling, etc.)
- • Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases (comfortable writing ANSI SQL)
- • Cloud computing & Kubernetes (or similar container orchestration) preferred
