📋 Description

• Own the green-field build of Thrill.com’s Sportsbook from day zero. You will architect the entire platform—odds engine, bet placement, risk management, settlement, and real-time streaming—while guiding a brand-new, high-calibre engineering squad in Dubai.
• Lead, mentor and scale a cross-functional team of 8-12 backend, frontend and DevOps engineers. Run weekly 1:1s, craft growth plans, and foster a culture of psychological safety where engineers ship bold, high-quality code.
• Drive technical excellence by defining coding standards, review gates, performance budgets, and observability SLAs. Champion TDD, pair-programming and blameless post-mortems so every release raises the bar.
• Translate business requirements into resilient, low-latency systems capable of handling millions of concurrent bets during marquee sporting events. Balance speed-to-market with long-term scalability, ensuring sub-second price updates and 99.99 % uptime.
• Collaborate daily with Product, Trading, Compliance and Data Science to shape features such as in-play cash-out, parlay builders and micro-markets. Present technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and secure buy-in for your architectural choices.
• Optimise the full SDLC: design Git-flow branching, containerise services with Docker, automate testing in parallelised pipelines, and deploy to AWS via blue-green or canary releases. Reduce lead time from merge to production to <15 minutes.
• Troubleshoot high-severity incidents in real time—whether it’s a Kafka partition lag, Redis hot-key or sudden odds feed spike. Coordinate war-room responses, implement fixes, and feed lessons back into the backlog.
• Establish OKRs that align engineering output with company KPIs (handle volume, gross gaming revenue, customer NPS). Track progress in Jira and present monthly updates to the executive team.
• Stay hands-on: review pull requests, prototype critical modules in Java 17, and occasionally jump into React or Svelte when the squad needs front-end firepower. Your code sets the gold standard.
• Champion security and regulatory compliance—GDPR, GLI-33, and emerging MENA licensing requirements. Embed threat modelling, encryption at rest, and responsible gambling safeguards into the platform DNA.
• Build a diverse, world-class team by partnering with Talent Acquisition. Define job specs, run technical interviews, and sell Thrill Labs’ vision to candidates across Europe, APAC and the Americas.
• Foster an innovation mindset: run quarterly hack-days, allocate 10 % time for R&D, and explore emerging tech like WebAssembly edge workers or probabilistic data structures for real-time risk scoring.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering with at least 3 years leading teams that delivered a high-traffic Sportsbook or real-money gaming platform
• Expert-level Java (Spring Boot) and hands-on proficiency in either React, Angular or Svelte; able to dive into code reviews and ship critical fixes
• Proven success designing distributed, low-latency systems using Postgres, Kafka, Redis and AWS (EC2, EKS, RDS, MSK)
• Deep experience with CI/CD, automated testing and DevOps culture—Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD or similar
• Exceptional stakeholder communication; can explain CAP trade-offs to traders and sprint velocity to executives
