We are seeking passionate and experienced industry professionals to serve as External Contractors for our AI-Powered Software Engineer track. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise to guide and mentor aspiring software engineers, shaping the future of tech talent.
- • As a Mentor, you will be instrumental in providing world-class technical support and guidance to our learners throughout their Nanodegree journey. Our mentors are handpicked through a rigorous selection process, embodying our #studentfirst philosophy. You will be the crucial link between complex technical concepts and our students' understanding, fostering their growth and success.
- • Your primary role will involve engaging with students virtually on a weekly basis. This includes facilitating community support, hosting live office hours, and participating in other enriching activities designed to enhance the learning experience. You will be a source of encouragement, clarity, and practical advice, helping students navigate challenges and achieve their learning objectives.
- • You will provide essential technical support to students through our online community forum. This involves actively monitoring discussions, addressing student inquiries related to course content, and offering clear, concise explanations to help learners overcome obstacles and progress in their studies.
- • A key responsibility is to facilitate content for students who encounter difficulties. This means not just answering questions, but also guiding them towards understanding, providing context, and reinforcing key concepts to ensure a solid grasp of the material.
- • You will host one weekly live virtual session dedicated to offering direct, real-time support to students. These sessions are vital for real-time problem-solving, in-depth discussions, and building a strong sense of community among learners. Your ability to explain complex topics clearly and engage an audience will be paramount.
- • It is also important to guide learners effectively by redirecting them to appropriate support channels when necessary. You will be trained to identify when an issue requires specialized assistance and ensure students are connected with the right resources.
- • You will escalate complex or persistent issues to the Mentor Operations team when needed, ensuring that all student concerns are addressed promptly and efficiently. This collaborative approach ensures a seamless support system for our learners.
- • This role demands hands-on software engineering experience. You should possess strong proficiency in Python or a similar backend language, demonstrating a deep understanding of its application in building robust software solutions.
- • Solid experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and scalable test design is crucial. You will guide students on best practices for writing effective tests that ensure code quality and maintainability.
- • A strong understanding of design patterns (creational, structural, behavioral) is essential. You will help students apply these fundamental principles to design efficient and maintainable software.
- • Experience with microservices and cloud-native architectures is vital. You will be expected to discuss and guide students on building modern, scalable applications using these paradigms.
- • You must possess the ability to design and review scalable system architectures. This involves understanding the principles of distributed systems and how to build them effectively.
- • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools in real development workflows is a significant advantage. You will guide students on how to effectively integrate these tools into their own development processes.
- • A key aspect of this role is the ability to evaluate AI-generated code for quality, security, and maintainability. You will teach students how to critically assess AI outputs and ensure they meet professional standards.
- • Strong code review and debugging skills are fundamental. You will mentor students on how to identify and fix bugs, and how to conduct thorough code reviews.
- • Experience working on production-grade distributed systems is preferred, allowing you to provide real-world context and insights to your students.
- • Experience teaching technical concepts, public speaking, organizing technical talks, or delivering webinars is highly valued. Your ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to a group will be a significant asset.
- • We are looking for individuals with a positive character, who can be trusted by students and create strong emotional ties within the learning group. Your mentorship should inspire confidence and foster a supportive learning environment.
- • This is a part-time role as an external contractor, requiring flexibility in your current work schedule to dedicate time to mentoring. We understand the demands of industry professionals and aim to create a mutually beneficial arrangement.
