Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Rox Data Corp is at the forefront of revolutionizing revenue operations with its AI-native operating system, designed for modern go-to-market teams. Backed by prominent investors like Sequoia, GV, and General Catalyst, we empower ambitious companies to transcend fragmented CRM workflows and embrace intelligent, autonomous systems that deliver tangible outcomes. As a fast-moving Series A company with a team of approximately 75 individuals, we operate at the dynamic intersection of data, artificial intelligence, and real revenue execution. Our core values emphasize technical rigor, a deep understanding of customer needs, and the construction of scalable systems built with clarity and precision.
- • The Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team at Rox serves as the critical nexus where product vision, engineering excellence, and customer success converge. FDEs are embedded directly within customer environments, tasked with tackling high-impact challenges. This involves seamlessly integrating Rox's platform into complex Go-To-Market (GTM) technology stacks, expertly shaping real-world implementations, and acting as a vital conduit for translating intricate customer requirements back into actionable product direction. It is crucial to understand that this is not a support function, nor is it traditional consulting; it is applied engineering with a profound sense of ownership and impact.
- • The FDE Lead role is specifically designed to scale this pivotal function. You will be instrumental in setting high standards, guiding a small yet critically important team, and ensuring that Rox's most strategic customers achieve significant value rapidly. This is a player-coach leadership position, where you will own the end-to-end execution and strategic evolution of the Forward Deployed Engineering function. You will lead a dedicated team of FDEs while remaining actively engaged with customers, particularly in the most high-stakes and complex engagements.
- • Your primary partnerships will be with the Sales and Engineering departments. You will ensure that customer implementations are not only technically sound and scalable but also perfectly aligned with Rox's long-term product strategy. The methodologies and patterns you establish – encompassing project scoping, technical decision-making processes, and the flow of feedback – will fundamentally define how the FDE function operates and scales as Rox continues its rapid growth trajectory. This role is ideally suited for an individual possessing deep technical expertise, proven experience in leading complex client-facing projects, and a strong inclination towards building durable, sustainable systems rather than relying on one-off, temporary solutions.
- • Your time will be strategically allocated across three key areas: approximately 40% will be dedicated to Functional Execution, involving hands-on technical work, architectural design, complex integrations, and successful project delivery. Another 30% will focus on Client-Facing activities, where you will lead customer engagements, conduct in-depth technical discovery sessions, and design bespoke solutions tailored to client needs. The remaining 30% will be dedicated to Team Leadership, encompassing the mentoring of FDEs, establishing clear operational standards, and driving the overall scaling of the function.
- • Key responsibilities include leading and scaling the FDE Function by managing a growing team of Forward Deployed Engineers, setting rigorous technical and execution standards for all customer deployments, and establishing repeatable, efficient patterns for project scoping, delivery, and seamless handoff. You will also coach and mentor FDEs, fostering both technical depth and excellence in customer interaction.
- • You will own strategic customer engagements, acting as the technical lead for complex or high-stakes projects. This involves partnering closely with Sales on pre- and post-sale technical strategy, leading deep technical discovery to uncover genuine customer constraints, and ensuring all customer implementations are robust, secure, and maintainable.
- • Furthermore, you will drive cross-functional execution by collaborating closely with Engineering to influence the product roadmap and strategic decisions. You will translate invaluable customer learnings into clear, actionable feedback for the product team. Additionally, you will align with Sales on deal strategy, technical feasibility, and delivery timelines, ensuring Rox's technical promises are realistic and achievable.
- • A crucial aspect of this role is building for the long term. This includes identifying opportunities where custom solutions can be productized, reducing friction and operational toil through the development of better tooling and standardized patterns, and consistently raising the technical bar across all customer deployments.
- • Success in this role will be measured by your ability to quickly internalize Rox's product, architecture, and customer use cases within the first three days. Within three weeks, you should be actively leading the FDE team and taking ownership of key customer engagements. By the end of the first three months, the FDE function should be scaling cleanly, characterized by clearer standards, stronger execution, and more effective feedback loops into Product and Engineering.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience leading technical, client-facing teams (e.g., FDE, Solutions Engineering, Consulting, or similar roles).
- • Strong hands-on engineering background with proficiency in languages and technologies such as Python, React, and SQL.
- • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from inception through to successful completion.
- • Comfort and experience operating effectively across Sales, Engineering, and Product departments.
- • Exceptional ability to translate ambiguous requirements and challenges into concrete execution plans.
- • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with both highly technical and non-technical stakeholders.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to lead and shape a critical, high-impact function at a rapidly growing, well-funded Series A company.
- • Work at the cutting edge of AI, data, and revenue operations, solving complex problems for leading GTM teams.
- • Collaborative and technically rigorous work environment with a focus on customer truth and scalable systems.
- • Competitive salary and equity package.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- • Remote work flexibility.
