  • • As a Recovery Specialist II at Nelnet, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the company's financial assets by proactively collecting on delinquent student loans. This remote position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our mission of creating opportunities for people through dedicated service.
  • • Your primary responsibility will involve initiating manual outbound collection attempts via an auto-dialer system, ensuring consistent and effective outreach to borrowers who have fallen behind on their payments. You will also be responsible for handling a smaller percentage of incoming calls, requiring you to be responsive and adept at managing diverse communication channels.
  • • A key aspect of this role is establishing effective payment arrangements. This requires strong negotiation skills to work with borrowers, understand their financial situations, and collaboratively determine the most appropriate and feasible plan to resolve outstanding delinquencies. Your ability to find mutually agreeable solutions will be paramount.
  • • You will be tasked with educating borrowers on the seriousness of their account status. This involves clearly communicating pertinent account information, detailing the history of the delinquency, and explaining the potential consequences of non-payment. Your communication must be both informative and persuasive, aiming to motivate borrowers towards resolution.
  • • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date borrower information is essential. You will be responsible for updating demographic details and other relevant information on borrower accounts within our servicing system, ensuring data integrity and efficient record-keeping.
  • • Beyond direct borrower contact, you will perform additional collection activities, which may include working with collections documents and reports. This requires a meticulous approach to ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • • You will be expected to fully embrace and contribute to Nelnet's Performance Based Organization (PBO) and Easy To Do Business With (ETDBW) philosophies. This means consistently striving for excellence in performance and ensuring a positive and seamless experience for the borrowers you interact with.
  • • Contributing to Continuous Process Improvement is highly valued. You will be encouraged to identify opportunities to enhance collection strategies, streamline workflows, and improve overall operational efficiency. Your insights and suggestions will be instrumental in our ongoing efforts to refine our services.
  • • This role demands a customer-focused mindset, even in challenging collection scenarios. You will need to balance the company's need for recovery with empathy and a genuine desire to help borrowers find solutions.
  • • Analytical skills will be utilized to assess borrower situations, understand payment patterns, and determine the best course of action for account resolution.
  • • Strong oral communication skills are vital for effective borrower interactions, negotiations, and conveying complex information clearly and concisely.
  • • Excellent listening and reading comprehension will enable you to fully understand borrower concerns, identify underlying issues, and respond appropriately.
  • • Intermediate math skills are necessary for calculating payment amounts, understanding interest, and managing financial arrangements.
  • • A keen attention to detail is required for accurate record-keeping, data entry, and ensuring all collection processes are followed precisely.
  • • Proficiency with PCs and intermediate math skills, including 10-key proficiency, are essential for daily tasks and system navigation.
  • • This position is a remote role, requiring you to reside within a 60-mile radius of Lincoln, NE or Brownsville, TX, and has a specific start date of April 13th.
  • • The role offers a competitive starting pay rate of $15.75 per hour, with the potential for significant additional earnings through a commission plan of up to $1,250 per month, rewarding your success in collections.
