đź“‹ Description

  • • As the inaugural Content Designer at Clay Labs Inc., you will be instrumental in shaping the voice and user experience of our groundbreaking platform. This is a unique opportunity to establish and define the content design discipline from its inception, working with high autonomy and significant impact. You will be the primary architect of the language that guides users through complex workflows, ensuring clarity, human connection, and delight in every interaction. Your role extends beyond mere writing; it involves strategic thinking, systems building, and cultural influence, making you a pivotal member of the Product Design team.
  • • You will collaborate closely with world-class designers, meticulous researchers, visionary Product Managers, and skilled engineers to ensure a cohesive and consistent product narrative. Your work will directly influence how thousands of customers, including industry leaders like Anthropic, Notion, Google, and Ramp, perceive and interact with Clay's powerful AI-driven growth tools. This cross-functional partnership is key to translating intricate functionalities into intuitive user journeys.
  • • A core aspect of your role will be to address immediate writing needs across the product, from user interface elements and onboarding flows to critical error messages and notification systems. Simultaneously, you will be tasked with building the foundational elements of our content strategy: defining and documenting our brand voice and tone, establishing scalable terminology, and creating reusable content patterns that can adapt to Clay's rapid growth and evolution.
  • • You will be at the forefront of answering critical questions that drive our product's user experience. How can language transform Clay’s most complex workflows into experiences that feel simple, intuitive, and approachable? What voice and tone will best embody Clay’s core values – being trustworthy yet creative, powerful yet human? How do we engineer scalable language systems, encompassing terminology, error states, and naming conventions, that can seamlessly keep pace with our accelerated product development? Ultimately, how can content design not only enhance clarity but also significantly boost user confidence, foster delight, and build unwavering trust in our product?
  • • Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of creative and strategic tasks. You will meticulously craft product copy for all surfaces, including UI text, intricate user flows, informative empty states, constructive error messages, engaging onboarding sequences, timely notifications, and clear settings menus. This requires a deep understanding of user needs and product functionality.
  • • You will be the custodian of our voice and tone, defining, documenting, and actively socializing these principles across all teams to ensure consistency and brand integrity. This involves creating a living style guide that evolves with the company.
  • • A significant part of your contribution will be simplifying complexity. You will partner with designers and PMs to translate sophisticated features and workflows into language that is easily understood and navigated by users, making the powerful capabilities of Clay accessible to everyone.
  • • You will design and implement reusable systems of language, including developing a robust terminology glossary, establishing clear naming frameworks for features and concepts, and creating repeatable content patterns that streamline the design and development process.
  • • To ensure the effectiveness of your copy, you will conduct lightweight User Experience Research (UXR) studies as needed. This will involve testing copy for clarity, comprehension, and overall user sentiment, using these research insights to iteratively refine and improve product language.
  • • You will serve as an educator and advocate for the discipline of content design within Clay. This includes championing its importance across the organization and mentoring colleagues on best practices for writing, ensuring a consistent and high-quality standard of communication throughout the company.
  • • Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will expertly balance the need for meticulous detail with the demands of rapid development cycles, consistently maintaining a high standard of quality in your work.
  • • You will play a crucial role in laying the groundwork for the future of content design at Clay. This involves helping to define the structure, processes, and strategic direction of the content design function as it grows, potentially leading to the development of a dedicated team.
  • • This role is ideal for a proactive, systems-oriented individual who thrives in an early-stage environment, capable of setting strategic direction while also executing on day-to-day tasks. Your ability to think critically about user needs, product strategy, and brand identity will be paramount to your success in this foundational role.
  • • Your impact will be felt across the entire user journey, from initial discovery and onboarding to advanced feature utilization and ongoing engagement. By infusing Clay’s product with clear, compelling, and human-centric language, you will directly contribute to user success, product adoption, and the overall growth of the company. This is an opportunity to build something lasting and define how a leading AI-powered growth platform communicates with the world.
