- • As the Founding Product Designer and Frontend Engineer, you will be instrumental in architecting the critical interface between our engineering clientele and Archie, our sophisticated agentic AI. This role transcends conventional screen design; you will be responsible for defining the intricate logic, branching pathways, and conversational dynamics that empower an AI to provide sophisticated assistance in complex physical engineering tasks.
- • You will collaborate intimately with our technical team, moving beyond abstract, high-level concepts to develop and implement rigorous, well-substantiated design systems. As the product owner for design, you will translate raw functional requirements into precise UI/UX specifications for our engineers to build, and subsequently drive the iteration process.
- • This position offers flexibility, accommodating remote work for candidates based in the US or Canada with existing work authorization, or for those preferring to work from our San Mateo Bay Area office. Remote employees will be expected to spend one week every six weeks collaborating in person at our San Mateo office. Relocation assistance is available for candidates interested in moving to the Bay Area.
- • **Key Responsibilities:**
- • **Define the Logic:** Meticulously map out user workflows, identifying common interaction paths and anticipating edge-case scenarios. Each design decision, from button placement to interaction flow, must be underpinned by a clear rationale focused on engineering utility, not merely aesthetic appeal.
- • **Design for Conversation:** Shape the communication style and effectiveness of Archie. You will provide informed UX recommendations for conversational design, ensuring that the AI's feedback is consistently clear, actionable, and technically accurate, fostering trust and efficiency for our engineering users.
- • **Bridge Design and Engineering:** Operate within a tangible technical pipeline, actively participating in testing, Quality Assurance (QA), and staging processes. Your role will ensure a fluid and robust transition from initial concept to a live, automated production environment, maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
- • **Build the Signal:** Spearhead our UX research initiatives and product instrumentation. Lead live customer feedback sessions to gain a deep and nuanced understanding of how our target customers interact with the product, identifying key areas for improvement and innovation to enhance their experience.
- • **Champion the Hardware Persona:** Immerse yourself fully in the domain of mechanical engineering. Your focus will be on solving high-friction problems for a highly specialized user base, moving beyond generic software solutions to address the unique challenges faced by engineers in physical product development.
