General Manager (Scaffolding Solution Delivery)

📋 Description

• • Own the end-to-end creation of a brand-new, nationwide scaffolding service that will underpin thousands of renewable-energy installations every year. From blank sheet to £multi-million P&L, you will design the operating model, choose the tech stack, set the safety standards, and launch region-by-region until every Octopus Energy Services project has rapid, reliable access to scaffolding.
• • Build and lead a high-performing, geographically dispersed team of supervisors, scaffolders, logistics planners, and customer-experience specialists. You will personally recruit the first 50 people, codify training pathways, and embed a culture where safety, sustainability, and customer obsession are non-negotiable.
• • Drive flawless execution across hundreds of concurrent sites. You will own daily performance dashboards, chair weekly safety stand-ups, and ensure every scaffold is erected, inspected, and struck on time, on budget, and to NASC TG20:22 standards. When things go off-track, you are the calm, decisive fixer who protects both people and margin.
• • Act as the single point of accountability for financial performance. You will set annual budgets, negotiate national supply agreements, and continuously optimise cost per lift without ever compromising safety. You’ll present monthly P&L reviews to the Octopus Energy Services board and be ready to defend every line item.
• • Forge and nurture strategic partnerships with Green Energy Access Solutions, local authorities, principal contractors, and equipment manufacturers. You will co-design digital workflows, trial next-generation lightweight scaffold systems, and secure preferential rates that give Octopus a competitive edge.
• • Champion customer experience at every touchpoint. Whether a homeowner is getting their first heat pump or a housing association is retrofitting 500 flats, you will guarantee courteous communication, spotless sites, and photographic evidence of safe completion. NPS >80 will be your north-star metric.
• • Embed a culture of continuous innovation. You will pilot drone-led site surveys, IoT-enabled load sensors, and AI-driven demand forecasting. Every quarter you’ll run “scaffold hack-days” where frontline teams pitch process improvements and the best ideas are scaled nationally within 30 days.
• • Ensure bullet-proof compliance with HSE legislation, CDM regulations, and Octopus’ own “Zero Harm” charter. You will personally sign off RAMS for complex lifts, lead quarterly emergency-response drills, and maintain a live digital audit trail that regulators describe as “best in class”.
• • Translate Octopus’ sustainability mission into tangible scaffolding practices. You will eliminate single-use plastics, introduce a nationwide scaffold-tube reuse scheme, and publish an annual carbon-reduction report that shows measurable progress toward net-zero operations.
• • Represent Octopus at industry forums, trade bodies, and government round-tables. You will shape future standards, lobby for safer access solutions, and position Octopus as the thought leader in sustainable scaffolding for the green-energy transition.
