- • As a Geospatial Analyst Resident on the AQNav Team at SandboxAQ Inc., you will contribute to the design and development of novel magnetic navigation systems that serve as GNSS alternatives, directly supporting advancements in secure, resilient positioning technology for critical applications in defense, aerospace, and infrastructure.
- • You will conduct high-impact research focused on geospatial data integrity, specifically characterizing and quantifying errors in magnetic anomaly maps to improve the accuracy and reliability of next-generation navigation algorithms.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include performing detailed trade studies on regional geophysical effects, map quality, and flight profiles to assess their influence on navigation system performance under varying environmental conditions.
- • You will collaborate closely with navigation, geophysics, and software engineering teams to translate geospatial insights into actionable improvements in magnetic navigation algorithms, ensuring seamless integration of analytical findings into real-time systems.
- • You will utilize Python to process, analyze, and visualize large geospatial datasets, applying statistical and spatial analysis techniques to quantify uncertainty and model spatially correlated errors in magnetic field measurements.
- • You will engage with git-based workflows and software development best practices, contributing to code reproducibility, version control, and collaborative development within an agile engineering environment.

- • Through this residency, you will gain hands-on experience applying advanced geostatistical methods, Gaussian processes, and uncertainty quantification techniques to real-world navigation challenges, building expertise at the intersection of geospatial science and AI-driven sensing.
- • You will develop professional skills in technical communication, interdisciplinary teamwork, and systems thinking, positioning yourself for future roles in geospatial analysis, navigation engineering, or applied geophysics in industry or research settings.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Geophysics, GIS, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field with demonstrated coursework or research in uncertainty quantification and spatial statistics.
- • Availability for a 6-month residency, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week (part-time) or full-time, starting in Summer 2026 (earlier availability considered).
- • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, scripting, and geospatial processing, including experience with libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas, or similar.
- • Exposure to magnetic or other potential-field data (e.g., gravity, gradiometry) is strongly preferred, including familiarity with data acquisition, processing, or interpretation.
- • Familiarity with git-based version control and software development best practices, including branching, pull requests, and code documentation.
