Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join our award-winning Revenue Cycle team as a part-time HB Coding Analyst and become the critical link between clinical documentation and accurate reimbursement. In this remote role, you will review and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for hospital-based (HB) accounts, ensuring every procedure, diagnosis, and service is captured with precision. Your work directly impacts the financial health of our health system, supporting timely billing, reducing denials, and maximizing compliant revenue.
  • • Own the full-cycle coding process for assigned HB charts, including inpatient, outpatient surgery, emergency, observation, and ancillary encounters. You will abstract clinical data from the electronic health record (EHR), interpret provider documentation, and translate complex medical terminology into standardized codes that meet CMS, AMA, and payer-specific guidelines. Accuracy targets exceed 95 %, and you will perform concurrent and retrospective reviews to maintain this benchmark.
  • • Leverage advanced encoder and computer-assisted coding (CAC) technology to streamline workflow while exercising independent judgment when software suggestions conflict with official coding directives. You will query physicians for clarification when documentation is incomplete or conflicting, fostering collaborative relationships that improve documentation integrity and patient data quality.
  • • Monitor daily productivity metrics—typically 20–25 inpatient records or 40–50 outpatient encounters per 4-hour shift—while balancing speed with unwavering accuracy. You will maintain an individual dashboard in our analytics platform, proactively identifying trends in DRG shifts, CC/MCC capture, and denial patterns, then presenting actionable insights to coding leadership and clinical teams.
  • • Act as a subject-matter resource during coding roundtables, monthly education huddles, and quarterly compliance audits. You will prepare tip sheets, lunch-and-learn slides, and quick-reference guides that help clinicians understand how their documentation choices influence severity of illness, expected length of stay, and ultimately reimbursement.
  • • Participate in special projects such as chargemaster updates, new service line implementations, and value-based care initiatives. Recent examples include partnering with oncology to map new CAR-T protocols and collaborating with cardiovascular surgeons to refine TAVR coding pathways, resulting in a 3 % increase in appropriate reimbursement.
  • • Uphold strict HIPAA and HITECH privacy standards in a fully remote environment. You will utilize secure VPN, multi-factor authentication, and encrypted devices provided by the organization. Quarterly security audits ensure your home office meets the same compliance standards as our on-site coding hubs.
  • • Enjoy a flexible, part-time schedule of 20 hours per week, Monday–Friday between 6:00 AM–2:30 PM CST, with no weekends, holidays, or call requirements. Shifts can be split into two 4-hour blocks or one 5-hour block plus a 1-hour professional development session, allowing you to balance personal commitments while advancing your career.
  • • Receive a comprehensive 4-week virtual orientation that includes live instruction, sandbox EHR access, and one-on-one mentoring with senior analysts. Ongoing education is funded through AHIMA and AAPC memberships, annual conference attendance, and specialty certification prep courses, ensuring you stay ahead of evolving coding regulations.
  • • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by submitting enhancement requests for workflow tools, participating in root-cause analyses of denied claims, and celebrating wins during virtual team huddles. Your voice shapes the future of our coding operations and directly influences patient care by ensuring resources are available for clinical innovation.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Current RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC credential with at least two years of acute-care HB coding experience
  • • Demonstrated proficiency in MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment, including CC/MCC capture and POA indicators
  • • Residency in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, or Wisconsin required for state tax and payer contract compliance
  • • High-speed internet (25 Mbps up/down) and a private, HIPAA-compliant home workspace
  • • Epic or Cerner EHR experience strongly preferred; encoder and CAC proficiency a plus

🏖️ Benefits

  • • $3,000 sign-on bonus paid in two installments during first 90 days
  • • 100 % remote flexibility with company-provided dual-monitor workstation and secure laptop
  • • Pro-rated PTO accrual of 10 days/year plus six paid holidays and one floating holiday
  • • Annual CEU stipend up to $1,500 and paid time for certification maintenance
  • • Access to virtual wellness programs, EAP, and discounted fitness memberships
