📋 Description
- • Lead a team of 4 Senior Backend Engineers responsible for the architecture, scalability, and reliability of Wizz, a social chat app with over 3 million monthly active users in the US and UK.
- • Own and evolve the backend architecture to support high-traffic, distributed systems serving millions of users with low latency and high availability.
- • Collaborate directly with product teams to shape product vision and influence technical decisions that impact user safety, engagement, and platform growth.
- • Design, implement, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, Fastify, Socket.io, and Go, ensuring robust performance under peak loads.
- • Build and manage APIs that power core Wizz features, including real-time messaging, user authentication, and content moderation systems.
- • Integrate and oversee third-party services such as analytics, cloud storage (S3), content moderation tools, and monitoring platforms to ensure seamless and secure user experiences.
- • Define and enforce best practices in observability, reliability, infrastructure management, and code quality across the backend engineering team.
- • Drive infrastructure evolution using microservice architecture on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and CloudFront.
- • Manage deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions, Docker, AWS CLI, and gcloud CLI to enable rapid, safe, and automated releases.
- • Improve system performance and scalability by optimizing database queries (MongoDB, Redis), reducing latency, and enhancing distributed system resilience.
- • Ensure backend systems support responsible growth while maintaining a safe, pressure-free environment for young users aged 18+.
- • Contribute to the continuous improvement of DevOps practices, including infrastructure-as-code and monitoring tooling.
- • Promote a culture of technical ownership, proactive problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration within the engineering and product teams.
- • Stay current with industry trends in mobile consumer apps and social platforms to inform architectural decisions and innovation.
- • Maintain alignment with the company’s mission to create authentic, meaningful social experiences that differ from traditional follower-based platforms.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional backend programming experience
- • Fluency in French
- • Strong expertise in Node.js (vanilla)
- • Professional experience with GCP or AWS
- • Proven track record building and scaling APIs for high-traffic, distributed systems
- • Experience with MongoDB, Redis, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and microservice architecture
