📋 Description

• As an Industrial Designer (CMF) at Plaud AI INC., you will serve as the critical bridge between San Francisco’s design vision and Shenzhen’s manufacturing reality, translating aesthetic concepts and mood boards into tangible, production-ready technical specifications that factories can execute with precision—ensuring the company’s AI-powered wearable devices meet the highest standards of material, color, and finish integrity while supporting Plaud’s mission to amplify human intelligence through trusted AI work companions used by over 1.5 million professionals globally.
• You will act as the "eyes and hands" for the SF Design Director, managing physical sample reviews, coordinating shipping logistics to headquarters, and maintaining rigorous quality control through the creation of Golden Samples and Limit Samples that define acceptable variation thresholds for mass production, directly impacting product consistency and customer satisfaction across global markets.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include sourcing innovative materials, textiles, and coatings from China’s supply chain tailored to wearable applications, collaborating on-site with suppliers to push the boundaries of finishes such as PVD coating, CNC machining textures, IMD/IML, anodizing, and soft-touch spraying, and solving CMF-related failures during engineering pilot runs (EVT/DVT) related to durability, color shift, sweat resistance, UV exposure, cosmetic interaction, and abrasion.
• You will produce and maintain bilingual CMF Control Drawings and limit sample boards to eliminate translation errors on the shop floor, ensuring seamless communication between Plaud’s San Francisco HQ and local vendors, while leveraging your expertise in color science—Pantone, NCS, RAL systems—and spectrophotometric measurement to manage Delta-E tolerances with professional precision.
• Using Keyshot (or equivalent) for high-fidelity CMF rendering and Adobe Creative Suite for specification documentation, you will create visually compelling, technically accurate deliverables that align industrial design intent with manufacturing feasibility, enabling rapid iteration and scalable production.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Material Design, Textile Design, or a closely related field
• 5+ years of professional experience in a hardware-focused CMF role, preferably within consumer electronics or wearable technology startups
• Fluency in both Mandarin and English is mandatory for effective communication with HQ design teams and local factory vendors
• Proven expertise in material science relevant to wearables, including performance textiles, skin-safe silicones, advanced polymers, and lightweight alloys (Aluminum, Titanium)
• Hands-on experience with manufacturing finishing techniques such as PVD coating, CNC machining textures, IMD/IML, anodizing, and soft-touch spraying
• Professional proficiency in color matching systems (Pantone, NCS, RAL) and use of spectrophotometers to control Delta-E (ΔE) tolerances
• Experience with Keyshot (or similar) for CMF rendering and Adobe Creative Suite for creating high-fidelity specification documents
• Extensive on-site factory experience in China, including real-time troubleshooting of production issues during engineering pilot runs (EVT/DVT)
• Demonstrated ability to create and maintain bilingual CMF Control Drawings and limit sample boards for factory quality control
• Prior experience working in a multinational environment reporting to remote HQ teams in North America or Europe
