Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As an Infrastructure Engineer at Griffin Banking Ltd, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the foundational systems that power a regulated, API-first bank designed to enable innovative fintechs and brands to embed financial products seamlessly into their applications. This role is critical to Griffin’s mission of making financial services accessible at the point of greatest relevance by ensuring the platform remains highly resilient, secure, and scalable.
- • You will manage infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments, including running FoundationDB clusters, orchestrating Kubernetes, writing infrastructure as code with Pulumi and CDK, maintaining the Bazel build farm, and owning the end-to-end deployment pipeline from CI to production. Your work will directly impact system reliability, security, and the speed at which other engineering teams can ship features.
- • You will drive operational resilience through practices such as replica clusters, multi-region failover planning, chaos engineering, and proactive monitoring using DataDog, ensuring systems remain stable under failure conditions and compliant with evolving regulatory requirements like those from the FCA.
- • You will collaborate closely with a small, high-trust team within the Craft function, working alongside the CTO and Founder to explore solutions via RFCs, proof-of-concepts, and experiments, prioritizing maintainability, observability, and scalability over shortcuts or premature optimization.
- • In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape long-term infrastructure strategy, including designing a hybrid-cloud setup to reduce vendor lock-in, improving Kubernetes scaling, enhancing the build farm, implementing PKI infrastructure, and building a global HTTP routing layer for rapid site failover—directly contributing to Griffin’s technical excellence and platform resilience.
🎯 Requirements
- • Solid systems experience with production exposure to container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), infrastructure as code (e.g., Pulumi, CDK), and strong IP networking knowledge to diagnose and resolve complex connectivity issues.
- • Proven cloud infrastructure experience in building and managing production environments, including work with networking, identity management, and compute resources at scale, preferably in AWS or similar platforms.
- • Programming fundamentals in languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, or functional languages; comfort writing code to automate and solve infrastructure problems (pure Bash/YAML scripting alone is insufficient).
- • Ability to thrive in a startup environment characterized by small teams, shifting priorities, high autonomy, and a bias toward asynchronous, remote-first collaboration.
- • Willingness and aptitude to learn Clojure, as it is used extensively in internal tooling (control plane, automation scripts), though prior experience is not required—familiarity with functional programming concepts is beneficial.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Remote-first flexibility: Work from anywhere in the UK, with the option to work from abroad for up to 20 days per year.
- • Generous time off: 25 days’ holiday, bank holidays, and a winter break (company-wide shutdown between Christmas and New Year).
- • Comprehensive wellbeing support: Private medical insurance with Bupa (including family cover), life insurance with AIG, and access to 1:1 coaching and therapy sessions via Oliva.
- • Financial and long-term benefits: Share options, auto-enrolment into the Penfold pension scheme, and enhanced parental leave offering up to 6 months on full pay after two years’ service.
- • Modern tooling access: Everyone receives a Claude subscription and access to other premium AI tools, plus support to create an effective home office setup.
