  • • Join our nationally recognized Health Information Management team as a fully-remote Inpatient Coder II, where your expertise will directly influence accurate reimbursement, quality reporting, and data integrity for a high-volume academic medical center. You will be entrusted with the complete coding lifecycle for complex inpatient encounters, including trauma, transplant, oncology, cardiovascular, neonatal, and multi-system cases.
  • • Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and MS-DRGs for an average daily census of 45–55 discharges, maintaining a 95 % accuracy rate and meeting a 3-day DNFB goal. You will review the entire electronic health record—physician documentation, operative notes, imaging, pathology, and ancillary reports—to abstract and sequence diagnoses and procedures in accordance with ICD-10 Official Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic, CMS, and UHDDS standards.
  • • Leverage 3M 360 Encompass and Epic HB coding work queues to perform concurrent and retrospective coding reviews, ensuring compliant assignment of CC/MCC, POA indicators, and surgical hierarchy. You will partner with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) specialists and physician advisors to clarify conflicting or incomplete documentation via compliant physician queries, driving a query response rate above 85 %.
  • • Serve as a subject-matter resource for coding staff and clinical teams by participating in daily huddles, monthly education sessions, and quarterly coding roundtables. You will mentor Inpatient Coder Is and new hires through side-by-side reviews, sharing best practices for complex PCS root operations, transplant complications, and obstetric coding.
  • • Monitor your individual quality and productivity dashboards, proactively identifying trends in DRG shifts, coding denials, and audit findings. You will collaborate with Revenue Integrity and Denials Management to craft appeal letters that overturn inappropriate payer denials, protecting millions in annual net revenue.
  • • Contribute to system-wide initiatives such as ICD-10 updates, MS-DRG grouper changes, and value-based purchasing metrics. You will pilot new encoder functionality, test Epic build enhancements, and provide feedback to IT and Compliance teams to streamline workflows and reduce keystrokes.
  • • Maintain strict HIPAA confidentiality and follow organizational policies for remote workforce security, including dual-authentication logins, encrypted devices, and ergonomic home-office standards. You will complete annual compliance and privacy training, as well as targeted education on emerging regulations (e.g., Price Transparency, No Surprises Act).
  • • Participate in interdepartmental committees focused on quality outcomes, patient safety indicators (PSI), and social determinants of health (SDOH) capture. Your coded data will feed institutional scorecards, mortality indices, and research registries, directly impacting clinical decision-making and population health strategies.
  • • Engage in continuous professional development by attending AHIMA webinars, AHA Coding Clinic updates, and internal lunch-and-learns. You will maintain your RHIA/RHIT/CCS credential through timely CEU completion and share key takeaways with the team in concise tip sheets and workflow updates.
  • • Champion a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion by supporting colleagues across all regions (IL, IN, IA, WI, MO, OH, MI, FL) and time zones. You will utilize Microsoft Teams chat, virtual stand-ups, and shared Kanban boards to foster transparent communication and rapid issue resolution.
