- • The Insurance/Billing Collection Assistant III (Remote) - Neurology position at Washington University in St. Louis performs advanced billing and collection activities, including acting as a Lead IBC Assistant who may train and guide other staff, ensuring timely reimbursement for physician services through accurate claims processing and follow-up.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include making collection calls to insurance companies and patients, verifying the accuracy and completeness of claims, handling discounts, adjustments, and charge corrections, reviewing remittance advices for payment accuracy, and contacting insurers and collection agencies to expedite payments from commercial, self-pay, Medicare, and Medicaid payers.
- • The role supports the customer service unit by answering billing inquiries, acts as backup for Accounts Receivable staff during peak periods, and monitors claim attachments to maximize reimbursements, all within a normal office environment requiring prolonged sitting and repetitive computer use.
- • Working in this role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in medical billing, insurance follow-up, and collections strategies while contributing to the financial health of a leading academic medical center, with potential for leadership and mentorship within the IBC team.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or equivalent
- • 3 years of billing or insurance experience
- • Proficiency in collections strategies, communication, computer literacy, confidential data handling, medical terminology, office equipment, and telephone systems
