📋 Description

• Join ION Group in Pisa for a paid, full-time internship where you will ship production-grade code that moves trillions of dollars through global capital markets every day. You will be embedded in one of our cross-functional squads—working side-by-side with senior architects, UX designers, and QA automation leads—on products used by investment banks, asset managers, and exchanges worldwide.
• From day one you will own a slice of the backlog: refactor a latency-sensitive pricing engine written in modern C++, extend a Java micro-service that streams real-time risk analytics to the cloud, or craft a React/TypeScript dashboard that surfaces complex derivatives data to traders in milliseconds. Your pull requests will go through the same rigorous code-review pipeline as our staff engineers and, once merged, will be deployed to production within hours.
• Expect to rotate through at least two product areas—such as server-side core services, desktop UIs, or web front-ends—to gain end-to-end exposure to our technology stack. You will learn how we apply domain-driven design to model financial instruments, how we use Kafka and Kubernetes to scale horizontally, and how we keep 99.99 % availability for mission-critical systems.
• You will participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives run according to Scrum. Mentors will pair with you to deepen your knowledge of object-oriented and functional paradigms, memory management, concurrency, and low-latency techniques. You will also present a lightning talk on a topic of your choice—past interns have covered everything from Rust vs C++ performance to the mathematics of option pricing.
• Beyond coding, you will collaborate with product owners to translate regulatory requirements into user stories, shadow client calls to understand how hedge funds use our software, and contribute to technical documentation consumed by hundreds of engineers globally. By the end of the program you will have a portfolio of commits in our mono-repo, a reference letter signed by your engineering manager, and a clear pathway to a full-time graduate offer.

🎯 Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM field with outstanding academic results
• Demonstrated programming ability in at least one of: Java, C++, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python
• Solid grasp of computer-science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and concurrent programming
• Familiarity with version-control workflows (Git) and basic Linux command-line tools
• Nice-to-have: exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), or financial mathematics
