Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design and implement end-to-end features for Ashby’s talent acquisition platform, combining visual design, UI/UX, and full-stack engineering to deliver high-impact user experiences.
- • Redesign and enhance the in-house design system to ensure consistency, scalability, and ease of use across the product, enabling other engineers to build beautiful interfaces efficiently.
- • Collaborate directly with Product Engineers to improve information hierarchy, scannability, and usability of existing features, such as candidate assessment views and setup wizards.
- • Conduct user research and gather feedback from Ashby’s own recruiting team and customers (including Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake) to inform design decisions and iterate rapidly.
- • Ship features to over 100,000 weekly active users and millions of candidates per week, with the ability to test ideas internally before broader release.
- • Own the full lifecycle of design and engineering tasks—from wireframing and prototyping to implementation and deployment—without relying on separate design or product teams to execute.
- • Improve developer tooling and leverage AI-powered systems to automate routine tasks, prototype ideas, and generate production-ready code, with unlimited AI token access.
- • Participate in pair programming, collaborative design sessions, and design system spec writing as part of the interview and onboarding process.
- • Contribute to a culture of minimal process, high ownership, and deliberate communication, with engineers leading projects from problem definition to delivery.
- • Work on a product built to solve complex recruiting challenges, such as automating calendar scheduling, interviewer coordination, and interview quality tracking.
- • Help shape the future of Ashby’s engineering culture by contributing to tools, abstractions, and workflows that increase team leverage without increasing headcount.
- • Engage in a 30/60/90-day onboarding plan that includes pushing your first product change on day one, paired programming with peers, and iterative delivery of increasingly complex features.
- • Maintain proficiency in TypeScript, React, CSS, and optionally Node.js, GraphQL, Postgres, and Redis to independently implement frontend and backend components as needed.
- • Balance rapid iteration with high visual standards, shipping early and often while maintaining exceptional taste and execution in visual design.
- • Avoid over-polishing features before release; prioritize user feedback and business needs over perfectionism to drive continuous improvement.
- • Consult on bespoke design requests from Product Engineers, providing both design guidance and technical implementation support.
- • Participate in biannual in-person team gatherings and use a stipend to meet with colleagues in your region.
🎯 Requirements
- • No more than 2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer
- • Demonstrated ability to create projects (professional or personal) with at least a few users that showcase strong visual design and engineering skills
- • Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and CSS
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and equity with a 10-year exercise window for stock options
- • Unlimited PTO with encouragement to take time off
- • 12+ weeks of fully paid parental leave, aligned with regional requirements
- • Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget
- • $100/month education budget with manager approval for larger expenses like conferences
- • Full coverage of health insurance premiums for you and your dependents (top-tier in the US; high-quality supplemental elsewhere)
