📋 Description

  • Are you a visionary engineer with a passion for leveraging cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence to revolutionize internal operations? Do you thrive in dynamic, fast-paced startup environments and possess a knack for building impactful solutions from the ground up? If so, blp Digital, a leading force in ERP automation, is seeking a Lead Applied AI Engineer to spearhead our internal tooling and automation initiatives.
  • At blp, we are not just a company; we are a high-performance ETH and HSG spin-off dedicated to redefining ERP automation through the power of AI. Our innovative solution is already making waves across 40+ countries, empowering over 20,000 daily active users and automating more than 70,000 processes each day. We tackle complex enterprise challenges with a blend of advanced technology and a profound sense of ownership, transforming finance, procurement, logistics, sales, and beyond.
  • As one of Switzerland's fastest-growing SaaS scale-ups, we are proud to be self-financed and entirely employee-owned. This unique structure fosters a culture of deep commitment and shared success. Our rapid ascent, recognized by the LinkedIn Top Startup Award, is a testament to our deep expertise in both technology and business processes, delivering a product with exceptional market fit to a growing roster of Fortune 500 clients.
  • This is a unique opportunity to take the reins of our internal engineering efforts. As the Lead Applied AI Engineer, you will be instrumental in building and leading the team responsible for developing and enhancing our internal tooling and automation systems. Your primary mandate will be to conceive, build, and deploy AI-powered internal tools designed to achieve a 10x improvement in the efficiency of our hiring, finance, and operations workflows. You will operate at the bleeding edge of AI, working with Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, and emerging AI tooling, applying these powerful technologies to solve critical internal business needs.
  • Your responsibilities will be broad and impactful. You will be expected to translate complex business pain points identified by non-technical teams – such as HR, finance, and operations – into robust, engineered solutions. This involves a deep understanding of their workflows, challenges, and desired outcomes. You will then architect and implement AI-driven automations that streamline these processes, freeing up valuable human capital for more strategic tasks.
  • You will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction and execution of our internal AI initiatives. This includes hands-on development, where you will be building and shipping AI-powered tools. You will leverage your expertise in areas such as prompt engineering, fine-tuning models, and integrating various AI services to create seamless and effective solutions. The focus will be on practical application and delivering tangible results that demonstrably improve operational efficiency.
  • Leading a small, high-caliber technical team will be a core aspect of this role. You will be responsible for setting clear technical direction, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment, and ensuring the rapid, yet high-quality, delivery of projects. This leadership will involve mentoring team members, facilitating knowledge sharing, and removing roadblocks to ensure smooth progress.
  • You will be a key player in the entire software development lifecycle for these internal tools. From initial problem scoping and requirements gathering, through to coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance, you will own the end-to-end delivery. This holistic approach ensures that the tools we build are not only innovative but also reliable and sustainable in a production environment.
  • This role demands a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset. You will be empowered to explore new AI technologies, experiment with different approaches, and identify opportunities for innovation within our internal processes. The ability to move quickly, adapt to new information, and iterate on solutions will be crucial for success.
  • Ultimately, as the Lead Applied AI Engineer, you will be a driving force behind optimizing blp's internal operations, enabling our continued rapid growth and reinforcing our position as a leader in ERP automation. You will be at the forefront of applying AI to solve real-world business problems within a company that is itself at the cutting edge of AI technology.

🎯 Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience building software, tools, or automation solutions end-to-end, from problem definition and scoping through to coding, deployment, and production maintenance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building with modern AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, prompt engineering, and contemporary AI frameworks. You should be comfortable with practical application and daily development using these tools.
  • Experience leading small technical teams, including setting technical direction, unblocking team members, and facilitating rapid delivery without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. This includes understanding the pain points of teams in areas like operations, finance, and HR, and translating them into engineered solutions.
  • A technical background, which can be demonstrated through a Computer Science degree, a coding bootcamp, or significant self-taught experience, as long as you have a track record of shipping functional software.

🏖️ Benefits

  • The opportunity to solve significant, real-world problems within a high-growth, deep-tech startup environment, working with global industry leaders.
  • The chance to build and shape our internal tooling and automation landscape from its foundational stages, taking true ownership of its direction and development.
  • Significant opportunities for personal and professional growth, with the ability to influence your career trajectory within a rapidly expanding, international company.
  • Collaboration with exceptional colleagues who possess outstanding academic backgrounds and professional experience, fostering a stimulating and intellectually rich work environment.
