📋 Description
- • Lead a team of 4 Senior Backend Engineers responsible for the architecture, scalability, and reliability of Wizz, a social chat app with over 3 million monthly active users in the US and UK.
- • Own and evolve the backend architecture to support high-traffic, distributed systems serving millions of users with low latency and high availability.
- • Collaborate directly with product teams to shape product vision and influence technical decisions that impact user safety, engagement, and platform growth.
- • Design, implement, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, Fastify, Socket.io, and Go to power real-time 1:1 messaging and user interactions.
- • Integrate and manage third-party services including analytics, content moderation, cloud storage (S3), and CDN (CloudFront) to ensure a secure and seamless user experience.
- • Implement and promote best practices in observability, reliability, and infrastructure management across all backend systems.
- • Improve system performance and scalability, particularly for distributed systems handling concurrent connections and high-volume data flows.
- • Manage infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and related tools, ensuring cost-efficiency and operational excellence.
- • Utilize Docker, GitHub Actions, AWS CLI, and gcloud CLI for CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments in a microservice architecture.
- • Contribute to the evolution of backend infrastructure to enable rapid product iterations while maintaining a safe environment for young users.
- • Ensure compliance with safety and moderation requirements through robust backend systems that detect and respond to inappropriate content.
- • Drive adoption of engineering standards across the team, including code quality, testing, monitoring, and incident response protocols.
- • Work closely with iOS teams using XCode, GitHub, and Cocoapods to align on API contracts and user experience consistency.
- • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for critical backend services to maintain platform uptime and user trust.
- • Promote a culture of ownership, innovation, and proactive problem-solving within the backend engineering team.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional backend programming experience
- • Fluency in French
- • Expertise in Node.js (vanilla) and experience with Fastify, Socket.io, and Go
- • Proven experience building and scaling APIs for high-traffic, distributed systems
- • Professional expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS
- • Experience with MongoDB, Redis, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, S3, and BigQuery
