Lead Engineer – Platform & Infrastructure

• • As the Lead Engineer for Platform & Infrastructure at Stream Labs, Inc., you will be at the forefront of shaping and scaling the core systems that power our real-time communication services, including Chat, Video, and Activity Feeds. This is a critical, hands-on role where you will directly contribute to the efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of our entire platform, which serves billions of end-users across thousands of applications.
• • You will be an integral part of a small, senior engineering team, reporting directly to the CTO. This position is designed for an individual who thrives on writing code, making impactful technical decisions, and influencing infrastructure strategy across multiple teams, rather than operating from a purely architectural distance.
• • The primary impetus for this role is our rapid growth. While our platform is robust, there is significant opportunity to enhance cost optimization, improve cloud efficiency, and further scale our infrastructure. We are seeking a leader with a strong software engineering foundation who can independently drive technical direction and accelerate infrastructure development without introducing bureaucratic processes.
• • Your initial six months will be intensely focused on three key strategic areas:
• • **Cloud Cost Optimization:** You will be tasked with identifying and eliminating waste within our cloud spend, driving the rightsizing of resources, and developing robust tooling and guardrails to prevent future cost escalations. The expectation is for measurable outcomes, not just reports.
• • **Platform Reliability and Scalability:** Enhancing our observability stack, defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs) where they are currently absent, and fortifying the underlying systems that all of Stream's products rely upon will be paramount.
• • **Architecture and Infrastructure Evolution:** You will evaluate, recommend, and drive decisions regarding our adoption of Kubernetes, the strategic direction of our database architecture, and our overall cloud provider strategy, which may include significant migration efforts.
• • Beyond this initial phase, you will play a pivotal role in defining the long-term platform roadmap, establishing high-level engineering standards, and collaborating closely with product and SDK engineers to ensure our developer platform remains a fast and efficient environment for building innovative applications.
• • You will leverage a core technology stack including Go, Python, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, Redis, Terraform, and a comprehensive observability stack (Prometheus, etc.).
