  • • Are you a visionary engineer with a passion for building groundbreaking technology from the ground up? LowRateCo is on a mission to revolutionize the multi-trillion-dollar mortgage industry, and we're looking for a highly motivated and hands-on Founding Lead Engineer to be the cornerstone of our technological future. This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to architect and implement an end-to-end AI automation solution that will redefine how mortgages are originated, processed, and underwritten. As our very first in-house engineering hire, you will be instrumental in migrating our product from an external agency to a robust, scalable, and proprietary internal platform. Following this critical migration, you will spearhead the rapid development and integration of our next generation of cutting-edge AI-driven features, directly shaping the company's technological trajectory.
  • • In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary engineer, taking full ownership of the design, development, testing, and deployment of our mission-critical, cloud-native platform. Your responsibilities will span the entire engineering lifecycle, ensuring the creation of a highly available, performant, and secure system. A significant focus of your work will involve AI Agent Development and Integration. You will be responsible for integrating, scaling, and managing both proprietary and third-party AI agents, including advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) like Gemini and GPT. These agents will be the engine driving automation across core business functions, from initial sales engagement and lead qualification to the intricate processes of loan application processing and underwriting. Your ability to effectively leverage and orchestrate these AI capabilities will be key to our success.
  • • System Ownership and Migration will be a core part of your mandate. You will inherit the existing infrastructure, which currently utilizes GCP, Python, Firestore, and a Salesforce integration. Your strategic vision will be crucial in planning and executing a seamless and efficient migration from the current external vendor solution to a fully in-house, robust, and scalable system. This migration is not just a technical task but a foundational step towards building a sustainable and adaptable technology stack that can support our ambitious growth plans.
  • • As the technical leader, you will drive all major technical decisions, establishing the foundational standards for code quality, architectural integrity, security, and operational excellence from day one. This includes defining our technology stack, choosing appropriate tools and frameworks, and ensuring best practices are implemented across the board. Your technical roadmapping and decision-making will set the precedent for all future engineering endeavors.
  • • Beyond the technical execution, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our engineering organization. This involves defining the ideal engineering team structure, actively participating in the recruitment process, mentoring new hires, and laying the groundwork for scaling the engineering staff as the company grows. Your leadership will be essential in building a high-performing, collaborative, and innovative engineering culture.
  • • You will work in close collaboration with the CEO and other product stakeholders. Your ability to translate an ambitious product vision, particularly the transition to full AI processing and underwriting, into concrete technical specifications and successfully delivered features will be paramount. This requires a deep understanding of both business objectives and technical possibilities, ensuring that our technology directly supports and accelerates our strategic goals.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 4+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development, with a strong emphasis on backend and cloud architecture.
  • • Proven experience working in a high-growth, early-stage startup environment or as a Founding Engineer, demonstrating the ability to thrive with high autonomy and limited resources.
  • • Deep experience with modern cloud environments, preferably GCP, and expertise in backend languages like Python (relevant for AI/ML work) or similar distributed systems languages.
  • • Strong background in designing and deploying cloud-native, distributed systems capable of handling high transaction volumes and integrating multiple external APIs.
  • • Exceptional self-starter and problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration, with a strong bias for action and delivery.
