📋 Description

• Own the technical direction and architecture of ZOE’s React-Native mobile app, used daily by 100,000+ members to log meals, track health data, and follow personalised nutrition plans. You will set the technical vision, define coding standards, and make high-impact decisions that shape the future of our mobile platform.
• Lead a cross-functional squad of engineers, product managers, designers, and analysts to ship features that turn complex science into joyful, habit-forming experiences. You will break ambiguous problems into incremental releases, balancing speed of learning with long-term scalability.
• Drive the roadmap for core product areas such as barcode scanning, AI-powered photo logging, wearables integrations, in-app subscriptions, and data visualisation. You will prioritise ruthlessly, ensuring every line of code moves the needle on member health outcomes.
• Champion code quality and performance across iOS and Android. You will introduce automated testing (Maestro, Detox), CI/CD improvements (GitHub Actions, Fastlane), and accessibility best practices so the app remains fast, reliable, and inclusive as we scale.
• Mentor and level-up a distributed team of mobile engineers through pair programming, architecture reviews, and career development plans. You will foster a culture of psychological safety where feedback is candid, constructive, and celebrated.
• Collaborate with the Mobile Community of Practice to lead platform-wide initiatives—React Native upgrades, shared component libraries, design-system governance, and end-to-end testing strategies—ensuring consistency and velocity across all product teams.
• Instrument and analyse user behaviour via Mixpanel, Firebase, and RevenueCat to validate hypotheses and iterate rapidly. You will turn data into actionable insights that improve onboarding, retention, and ultimately the number of healthy years our members gain.
• Partner with backend engineers to design robust APIs and data contracts that power real-time syncing of sleep, exercise, and nutrition data. You will own the mobile-to-backend interface, ensuring security, privacy, and offline resilience.
• Ship to production weekly (sometimes daily) using feature flags, phased rollouts, and rigorous monitoring. You will celebrate wins, run blameless post-mortems, and continuously raise the bar for release excellence.
• Represent ZOE externally by speaking at meetups, writing blog posts, and contributing to open-source projects. You will help us attract top talent and share our mission of transforming global health through science-backed nutrition.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on frontend or mobile engineering experience, with at least 3 years leading technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and owning large-scale React Native or native mobile codebases.
• Expert-level proficiency in React Native, TypeScript, and modern mobile tooling (Expo, Reanimated, Redux, Fastlane, Maestro, or equivalent).
• Proven ability to architect scalable, maintainable mobile applications, including state management, navigation, offline caching, and modular design.
• Strong collaboration skills—comfortable working asynchronously across UK & EU time zones with product, design, data science, and backend teams.
• Pragmatic mindset: you favour simple, elegant solutions, know when to incur technical debt, and systematically pay it down without slowing delivery.
