- • As the Lead Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at DICK'S Sporting Goods, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and scalability of software systems that power the digital experience for athletes and sports enthusiasts nationwide. Your leadership will directly impact customer trust and satisfaction by delivering high-quality, defect-free applications that support the company’s mission to equip athletes to achieve their dreams.
- • You will lead a team of skilled testers in designing, implementing, and executing comprehensive end-to-end testing strategies across web, mobile, and cloud-based platforms, ensuring that every release meets rigorous standards for performance, security, and usability while aligning with agile development cycles and business objectives.
- • Day to day, you will develop and maintain robust test strategies, create detailed test plans and test cases, and execute both manual and automated tests to validate functionality, performance, and scalability of applications, while meticulously documenting results and tracking defects through their lifecycle.
- • You will collaborate with automation engineers to identify high-value test scenarios for automation, develop and maintain scalable automated test scripts using Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, and similar frameworks, and continuously improve the efficiency and coverage of the test automation suite.
- • As a technical leader, you will mentor and guide a team of testers, assign tasks, set clear expectations, monitor performance, and foster a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement, ensuring that testing is integrated early and often in the software development lifecycle.
- • You will coordinate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to provision and maintain stable test environments that mirror production, manage test data integrity, and ensure reliable execution of tests across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- • You will define, track, and report on key quality metrics such as defect density, test coverage, pass/fail rates, and mean time to detect/resolve, using data-driven insights to communicate testing progress and risks to product, engineering, and executive stakeholders.
- • You will drive continuous improvement by evaluating emerging testing tools and methodologies—including AI-powered test generation, defect prediction, and analytics—and advocating for their adoption to enhance testing efficiency, accuracy, and predictive capabilities.
- • You will own the technical strategy for specialized testing domains such as test data management, mobile device testing, integration testing, and AI/ML model validation, selecting and deploying best-in-class tools and frameworks that deliver maximum business impact.
- • You will work closely with product managers, UX designers, and developers to ensure user stories are testable, clear, and aligned with quality gates, participating in sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives to embed quality into every phase of delivery.
- • You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to both testing and engineering teams, guiding them in creating meaningful, maintainable automated tests and advocating for quality as a shared responsibility across the organization.
- • You will conduct risk assessments to prioritize testing efforts based on business impact, likelihood of failure, and change complexity, ensuring that limited resources are focused on the highest-risk areas to maximize quality outcomes.
- • About the team and company: DICK'S Sporting Goods is a purpose-driven organization committed to using the power of sports to change lives, fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace that reflects the communities it serves, and investing in technology that enables seamless omnichannel experiences for millions of customers.
- • In this role, you will grow as a technical leader in quality engineering, deepen your expertise in modern test automation and cloud-native testing practices, and have the opportunity to shape the testing strategy for a major retail technology organization, positioning yourself for advancement into senior engineering or engineering management roles.

- • Solid experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Bamboo, or equivalent platforms
