• As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our backend services, specifically for a key government client. This is an exceptional opportunity to leverage the latest commercial and open-source technologies to design, develop, document, and deploy robust backend services. Your focus will be on ensuring high availability, achieving low latency, and building scalable solutions that meet the demanding requirements of enterprise-level applications.
• You will be instrumental in the entire software development lifecycle, from conceptualization and design to implementation and deployment. This includes actively participating in the team’s elaboration and estimation of user stories, ensuring a clear understanding of requirements and technical challenges. A key aspect of this role involves building and deploying frequent, small releases, a practice that maintains team momentum and allows for rapid iteration and feedback.
• Collaboration is at the heart of our engineering culture. You will work closely with other talented engineers within our cross-functional feature teams. This collaborative approach ensures knowledge sharing, mutual support, and the ability for team members to cover for each other, fostering resilience and continuous progress. You will also be responsible for building, optimizing, and operating our Continuous Deployment pipelines, ensuring efficient and reliable delivery of software.
• Furthermore, you will maintain operational responsibility for the services your team owns. This means you will be involved in monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the ongoing health and performance of the systems you help build. This hands-on operational involvement provides valuable insights that feed back into the design and development process, creating a virtuous cycle of improvement.
• The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in software engineering principles and a proven track record of delivering high-quality code. You will be adept at translating complex business needs into elegant technical solutions. Your contributions will directly impact the security, performance, and scalability of critical data infrastructure for a significant government client, making this a role with substantial impact and visibility.

• This position requires a UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance. While holding current SC clearance is advantageous, we are committed to supporting eligible candidates through the application process, provided they meet the residency requirements (minimum of 5 years lived and worked in the UK). This clearance is essential for the nature of the work and the sensitivity of the data handled.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience, or a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven proficiency in JAVA programming, with extensive experience using Spring Boot.
• Experience with messaging or streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Experience with Big Data technologies and public cloud services, specifically AWS.
• Familiarity with Scala and Spark, and experience integrating with backing services like PostgreSQL, Redis, or S3.
• Strong understanding of good engineering practices, including continuous delivery, clean code, automated testing, code reviews, and Test Driven Development (TDD).
• Experience working within Agile development and/or DevOps teams, and proficiency with source control systems like GitHub/GitLab.
• Eligibility for and willingness to undergo UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance, including meeting the 5-year UK residency requirement.
