📋 Description

• As a Lead Software Engineer specializing in AI Products at hyperexponential (HX), you will be at the forefront of revolutionizing the $7 trillion insurance industry by architecting and building cutting-edge AI-powered solutions. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of how critical financial decisions are made, from space rocket launches to disaster recovery, by modernizing the tools used in this high-stakes sector. You will be instrumental in developing a platform that integrates data, artificial intelligence, and human expertise, enabling insurers to operate with unprecedented speed, intelligence, and confidence.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end lifecycle of AI-driven products. You will architect and construct complex AI products from the ground up, tackling challenges that lack established solutions and require innovative thinking. A significant part of your role will involve leading the design and implementation of groundbreaking features, such as domain-specific coding copilots integrated within HX’s proprietary development environment. This will involve deep collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers and fellow engineers, to meticulously shape architectural decisions. Your focus will be on ensuring the scalability, reliability, and long-term sustainability of our sophisticated AI systems. You will be empowered to experiment, prototype, and ship new features at a rapid pace, witnessing your innovations transition swiftly from conceptualization to production and deployment within live customer environments. Furthermore, you will actively contribute to the strategic evolution of HX’s AI technical vision, championing and embedding best practices in software engineering and driving engineering excellence throughout the team. This team uniquely combines state-of-the-art Large Language Model (LLM) technology with profound insurance domain expertise to address challenges that few others are equipped to handle. You will contribute to two flagship products: a sophisticated ingestion engine that transforms unstructured insurance documents into actionable structured insights, and our flagship offering, a domain-specific AI peer-programmer embedded within a custom IDE. This tool is designed to fundamentally transform how actuaries and underwriters engage with code, model risk, and make multi-billion dollar decisions. This is applied AI with tangible impact, where the team operates with speed, embraces frequent experimentation, and delivers real value directly to our customers.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience building and shipping technically complex production systems, with a strong preference for Python, but also open to Rust and Kotlin, and TypeScript as a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to solve challenging, real-world engineering problems involving data, scale, performance, or reliability, moving beyond simple CRUD applications.
• Experience taking end-to-end ownership of technical initiatives, from identifying opportunities and designing solutions to delivering tangible impact.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to a diverse range of stakeholders, including engineers and product leaders.
• Experience influencing engineering direction and culture, with a track record of scaling local successes into broader organizational practices.
• Experience delivering AI or ML-powered products from prototype to scale, balancing experimentation with production rigor (nice to have).
