• • As a Lead Software Engineer / Tech Lead for Growth at Maximus Tribe, you will be instrumental in shaping the customer acquisition engine of a rapidly scaling, mission-driven telehealth company. This role offers a unique blend of technical leadership and hands-on coding, with an approximate 50/50 split between managing a team and developing features. You will own the critical lower acquisition funnel, from the initial flow start all the way through the checkout process, impacting all Maximus protocols.
• • Your primary objective, your north star metric, will be optimizing the conversion rate from Flow Start to Checkout. However, this pursuit of conversion must be balanced with a crucial M1 Retention guardrail. This means you cannot sacrifice user quality for short-term conversion gains; every experiment you deploy will incorporate a built-in quality check to ensure long-term customer value.
• • You will lead a dedicated team of engineers, fostering their growth and development through regular 1:1s, pair programming sessions, constructive code reviews, and insightful career conversations. This leadership extends to collaborating closely with a Senior Product Manager and a Senior Designer, ensuring a cohesive and effective product development process. You will report directly to the Head of Engineering, contributing to the overall technical strategy and execution.
• • A significant part of your role will involve delivering protocol-level A/B experiments. These experiments will focus on optimizing signup flows, checkout processes, plan pricing strategies, and product recommendations, leveraging data from Amplitude to drive informed decisions.
• • You will be responsible for shipping full-stack features across the entire acquisition funnel, utilizing our core technology stack of Ruby on Rails and React.
• • You will take ownership of experiment design, meticulously defining sample sizing, selecting appropriate metrics, and navigating the inherent tension between conversion rate optimization and user retention.
• • Continuous iteration and optimization of the plan and pricing architecture will be a key responsibility, including seamless integration with our payment platforms like Stripe and Klarna.
• • Building and maintaining the experimentation infrastructure that your team relies upon will be crucial for enabling efficient and effective A/B testing.
• • You will partner closely with the data engineering team to instrument cohort-level M1 retention tracking for each experiment, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of experiment impact.
• • A forward-thinking aspect of this role involves driving the adoption of AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code and Devin, to enhance shipping velocity and overall development efficiency across the team.
• • The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of funnel and cohort analysis, moving beyond feature-centric development to a more holistic, data-driven approach to growth.
• • You will be comfortable working within an event-sourced architecture or similar patterns where system state is derived from event streams, demonstrating a strong grasp of modern software design principles.
• • The role requires a proactive approach to technical leadership, ensuring the team adheres to best practices in coding, testing, and deployment, while also fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
