- • Design and build immersive, tactical combat environments for a third-person military tactical shooter, ensuring spaces support squad-based gameplay and strategic decision-making.
- • Own the full lifecycle of level design, from initial layout and prototyping through implementation, iteration, and final polish, delivering high-quality gameplay spaces end-to-end.
- • Collaborate closely with art and engineering teams to ensure environments are visually authentic, technically feasible, and aligned with the game’s military setting and tone.
- • Create combat spaces that reward planning, execution, and multiple tactical approaches, emphasizing player agency and meaningful choices during engagements.
- • Prioritize pacing, readability, and spatial clarity to ensure players can intuitively navigate and understand combat scenarios without visual or mechanical confusion.
- • Work with creative leadership to align level design with the overall vision of the project, ensuring consistency in narrative, tone, and gameplay objectives.
- • Conduct playtesting and analysis of level performance, incorporating feedback to refine enemy placement, cover architecture, sightlines, and flow dynamics.
- • Balance challenge and accessibility by designing levels that accommodate varied player skill levels while maintaining tactical depth and replayability.
- • Integrate gameplay systems such as AI behavior, environmental hazards, and objective triggers into level layouts to enhance immersion and interactivity.
- • Document design decisions and technical requirements for levels to support team alignment and future development phases.
- • Adapt level designs based on feedback from gameplay testing, production milestones, and technical constraints without compromising core design intent.
- • Maintain awareness of industry best practices in military-themed level design and apply relevant insights to improve gameplay quality and realism.
- • Contribute to the studio’s creative culture by participating in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience as a Level Designer on shipped AAA or indie tactical shooters or military-themed games.
- • Strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in designing combat spaces with emphasis on tactical gameplay, pacing, and player agency.
- • Proficiency with industry-standard level editing tools (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary engines) and familiarity with scripting or visual scripting systems.
- • Deep understanding of military tactics, terrain usage, cover systems, and squad-based combat dynamics.
- • Ability to work independently and manage multiple design tasks within a remote-first environment.
- • Legal eligibility to work in Canada and current residence within Canada.
