Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of real-time and batch analytics applications that power Kemper’s competitive edge. You will architect, build, deploy, and continuously improve ML/AI pipelines that serve millions of policyholders and thousands of internal users across auto, life, and specialty lines of business.
  • • Lead or work independently on the creation of reusable ML/AI tooling—think feature stores, model registries, automated retraining jobs, and A/B testing frameworks—that accelerate every data scientist in the company. Your code will be the foundation on which actuarial, pricing, fraud-detection, and customer-experience models are trained, validated, and monitored.
  • • Translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions by collaborating with actuaries, underwriters, claims adjusters, and product managers. You will gather requirements, design experiments, and deliver models that reduce loss ratios, improve customer retention, and streamline operations.
  • • Champion MLOps best practices: containerization with Docker, orchestration with Kubernetes on AWS (EKS), CI/CD via GitLab and Jenkins, infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or CloudFormation, and automated testing that keeps model drift and data quality issues in check.
  • • Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and rollback strategies for models in production. You will set up dashboards in CloudWatch or Grafana, define SLIs/SLOs, and ensure that every deployment meets Model Risk Management governance standards.
  • • Optimize data pipelines that ingest terabytes of structured and unstructured data from policy, claims, telematics, and third-party sources. You will work with JSON, XML, Parquet, and Avro, leveraging AWS S3, Glue, EMR, and Lambda to keep latency low and costs predictable.
  • • Contribute to the evolution of Kemper’s internal analytics platform by evaluating new AWS services, open-source tools, and third-party vendors. Your recommendations will shape the roadmap for GPU clusters, feature stores, and real-time streaming architectures.
  • • Mentor junior engineers and data scientists through code reviews, brown-bag sessions, and pair programming. You will document architectural decisions, runbooks, and onboarding guides so that knowledge is shared, not siloed.
  • • Ensure security and compliance by integrating IAM roles, VPC endpoints, encryption at rest/in transit, and audit logging into every pipeline. You will partner with Enterprise Information Security to pass SOC 2, PCI, and state insurance examinations.
  • • Travel up to 10 % domestically to Alpharetta, Chicago, Jacksonville, or Birmingham offices for quarterly planning, team building, and stakeholder workshops. Remote work is fully supported, but you will align your schedule to Central or Eastern time zones for maximum collaboration.
