📋 Description

  • Skimmer Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager, Software Engineering focused on Payments to join our growing team in Austin. At Skimmer, we are dedicated to modernizing the pool and spa service and repair industry, empowering over 6,000 customers with our innovative platform. Our commitment to customer success is paramount, reflected in our high NPS score of 68 and recognition on the Inc. 5000 list, Deloitte Fast 500, and as a top startup by Built In Austin. We foster a culture of "big thinkers with small egos," where collaboration, continuous improvement, and having fun are integral to our success.
  • As the Manager, Software Engineering - Payments, you will serve as a crucial player-coach, leading a talented team of developers while also contributing hands-on to our platform's financial operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the security, reliability, and compliance of our payments and financial ecosystem, which underpins the entire Skimmer experience for our customers. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering and collaborate closely with Product, Finance, Customer Success, and Support teams to drive strategic initiatives and maintain operational excellence.
  • The Payments and Finance Development Team is responsible for all financial aspects of the Skimmer platform and mobile application. This includes the intricate processes of credit card processing, managing payment gateways, and ensuring seamless integration with various financial and accounting platforms. Key metrics owned by this team include payment success rates, transaction security, and the overall data integrity of our finance systems. While a separate team manages the Stripe integration for customer subscriptions, this role specifically owns the critical finance integrations that our customers rely on for their day-to-day operations.
  • Your primary objective will be to guarantee a robust, secure, and compliant payments and financial infrastructure. This involves deep technical expertise in API-based, real-time integrations, with a particular emphasis on Stripe credit card processing and broader financial system integrations. As a player-coach, you will not only guide and mentor your team but also actively participate in coding and technical problem-solving, ensuring the highest standards of technical execution.
  • A significant aspect of this role involves leveraging AI tools to enhance team productivity, improve code quality, and streamline development processes. You will be instrumental in identifying and implementing AI-driven solutions that empower your team to deliver exceptional results more efficiently. This forward-thinking approach is essential for maintaining Skimmer's competitive edge and fostering innovation within the engineering department.
  • Key responsibilities include leading and managing a small team of development engineers, providing technical mentorship, and contributing code to critical payment and finance functionalities. You will act as the internal subject matter expert for Skimmer's payments and finance systems, including the intricacies of Stripe credit card processing. A major focus will be on driving the integration and ongoing maintenance of financial and accounting platforms, such as QuickBooks Online, to ensure data accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency for our customers.
  • Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing and implementing secure, reliable APIs and systems that govern all payment and finance-related operations. This includes overseeing security protocols and ensuring compliance with industry standards like PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) to protect sensitive customer data. You will also play a role in vendor selection for payment gateways and other financial solutions, contributing to strategic technology decisions.
  • In your first 90 days, you will tackle high-impact projects such as leading the migration or upgrade of our core Stripe credit card processing system to the latest API standards, scoping and initiating the integration with QuickBooks Online or a similar accounting platform, and conducting a thorough review and enhancement of our current PCI compliance posture and data security protocols. These early initiatives will set the foundation for future growth and stability within the payments and finance domain.
  • Skimmer is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, valuing the contributions of individuals from all backgrounds. We encourage applications from candidates who resonate with our culture and possess a strong passion for our mission, even if they don't meet every single requirement. We believe in fostering a collaborative environment where everyone can learn, grow, and contribute to our shared success.
