đź“‹ Description

  • • As an AI Tutor - Materials Science Specialist at xAI Corporation, you will play a critical role in advancing the company’s mission to build AI systems that understand the universe by providing expert-level input, annotations, and curated data to train and refine cutting-edge AI models in materials science.
  • • Your work will directly contribute to improving AI performance in scientific discovery, enabling breakthroughs in energy materials, semiconductors, nanomaterials, biomaterials, and other advanced material domains through high-quality data labeling and problem curation.
  • • Day to day, you will use proprietary software to annotate and label complex materials science data across text, voice, and video formats, ensuring precision and consistency in training datasets for AI model development.
  • • You will collaborate closely with xAI’s technical team to refine annotation tools and workflows, offering expert feedback to improve the efficiency and accuracy of data curation processes.
  • • A key responsibility involves selecting and solving complex, domain-specific problems from your materials science specialization—such as phase transformations, microstructure-property relationships, or electrochemical behavior—to challenge and improve AI model reasoning and output quality.
  • • You will regularly interpret evolving project instructions, analyze model responses, and autonomously judge the quality of AI-generated content, adapting quickly to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
  • • You will contribute to the training of new AI tasks by providing high-fidelity examples and edge cases that push the boundaries of current model capabilities, particularly in underrepresented or emerging areas of materials science.
  • • xAI operates with a flat, mission-driven structure where initiative and excellence are rewarded with leadership opportunities; you will work alongside a small, highly motivated team of engineers and researchers passionate about pushing the frontiers of AI and science.
  • • The company fosters a culture of curiosity, hands-on contribution, and strong communication, expecting all team members to share knowledge clearly and prioritize effectively to support collective goals.
  • • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in AI-data collaboration, gain rare experience at the intersection of materials science and artificial intelligence, and develop skills in technical annotation, model evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration that are highly valuable in both research and industry settings.
  • • You will have the opportunity to influence how AI learns complex scientific concepts, potentially shaping tools that accelerate materials discovery and innovation worldwide.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Master’s or PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a highly related field.
  • • Expertise and specialization in a materials-related subdomain such as energy materials, semiconductors, nanomaterials, metals, alloys, biomaterials, polymers, elastomers, ceramics, or glasses.
  • • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational capabilities, with strong reading comprehension and the ability to exercise autonomous judgment with limited data.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $45/hour to $75/hour for U.S.-based candidates, based on experience, skills, education, and location.
  • • Eligible U.S.-based positions include access to health insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and paid sick leave, with specific details provided during the interview process.
  • • Fully remote work flexibility from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility and time-zone compatibility, with no requirement to relocate.
