Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Define and implement validation frameworks to ensure microgrid control software performs safely and reliably before deployment across real-world operating conditions.
  • • Build simulation environments and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing capabilities to verify system stability, controller performance, and operational readiness.
  • • Design and maintain automated test execution workflows that improve validation efficiency, repeatability, and reporting for microgrid control systems.
  • • Develop scalable validation processes to support the growth and deployment of multiple gigawatts of microgrid and data center infrastructure across the U.S.
  • • Partner with controls engineers, power systems engineers, utilities, and external partners to define validation scenarios, test cases, and performance requirements.
  • • Verify controller behavior under both normal operating conditions and abnormal events such as equipment faults, communication delays, and grid disturbances.
  • • Establish objective performance metrics and acceptance criteria to evaluate system readiness for commercial deployment.
  • • Analyze field operating data to improve simulation fidelity and identify previously untested edge cases for inclusion in regression test suites.
  • • Incorporate operational insights from live microgrid systems into validation frameworks to continuously strengthen coverage and accuracy.
  • • Maintain and expand laboratory validation assets, including HIL environments, test equipment, and supporting infrastructure.
  • • Troubleshoot issues related to simulation platforms, test hardware, and validation workflows to ensure system integrity and uptime.
  • • Maintain organized repositories of validation artifacts, test results, requirements traceability, and technical documentation.
  • • Support root-cause investigations for system performance issues by correlating validation results with field operational data.
  • • Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders to align validation strategies with utility interconnection standards and grid operations.
  • • Contribute to the commissioning and operational validation of laboratory and utility-scale power systems.
  • • Apply modern software development practices including version control, automated testing, and continuous integration workflows in validation pipelines.
  • • Stay current with evolving utility interconnection requirements, grid codes, and energy market participation rules, with preference for ERCOT experience.
  • • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and system reliability through meticulous attention to detail and proactive problem-solving.
  • • Participate in team gatherings at Intersect’s Hub locations (SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, Denver, CO, Austin, TX, Calgary, AB, Toronto, ON) four times annually to strengthen team cohesion.
  • • Operate within Intersect’s fully flexible workplace model, with preference for candidates located within 60 miles of any listed Hub to enable in-person collaboration when needed.

  • • 2–5+ years of experience in real-time system HIL validation, SIL testing, power system model verification, or related validation disciplines
  • • Hands-on experience with real-time simulators and validation platforms such as SIL, HIL, or comparable environments
  • • Experience designing automated test pipelines and verification methodologies for real-time or embedded systems
  • • Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools such as Simulink, Modelica, or similar platforms
  • • Experience using industrial control and embedded programming languages such as C++, IEC 61131-3 Structured Text, SEL RTAC logic, CODESYS, Lua, Rust, or C

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully flexible workplace model with no enforced work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office policies
  • • Team Week gatherings four times per year to foster social connections and shared experiences
  • • Access to Intersect’s Hub locations in SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, Denver, CO, Austin, TX, Calgary, AB, and Toronto, ON
  • • Opportunity to work on large-scale clean energy infrastructure projects with direct real-world impact
