Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Be the eyes and ears of the nation’s largest wholesale vehicle marketplace. As a Mobile Vehicle Inspector II for Manheim Express in the Columbus North territory, you will travel to dealer lots across the region, conducting meticulous condition reports that directly influence the sale price and speed of thousands of vehicles every month. Your findings power real-time bidding, floor pricing, and transparency for buyers and sellers alike.
  • • Own a daily route that is as dynamic as the inventory you inspect. Each morning you’ll receive a prioritized list of client appointments; you’ll map your own efficient path, arrive on-site, and immediately begin locating, starting, moving, and returning vehicles without supervision. You are trusted to manage your own schedule, pivot when last-minute requests arise, and still hit productivity targets set by leadership.
  • • Master a 150-point digital inspection process that blends art and science. You’ll verify VIN, mileage, and sub-series, then systematically document exterior paint, frame, glass, tires, and panels for dings, scratches, hail, and prior bodywork. Inside the cabin you’ll test every seat, switch, screen, and option, capturing high-resolution photos and concise notes that feed directly into Manheim’s marketplace listings.
  • • Perform basic mechanical triage on the spot. Using nothing more than a scanner, flashlight, and your trained ear, you’ll evaluate powertrain, drivetrain, and electrical health—flagging misfires, leaks, warning lights, or abnormal noises that could affect valuation. Your quick assessments save dealers costly surprises at auction and protect buyers downstream.
  • • Act as a brand ambassador who builds lasting dealer relationships. Between inspections you’ll engage lot managers, explain how Manheim Express increases turn rates and net profit, and encourage them to schedule additional inventory for inspection. Your credibility and consultative style convert one-time visits into recurring weekly routes.
  • • Leverage Salesforce.com to log every interaction, upload photos, and track customer performance metrics. You’ll review dashboards that reveal which dealers are trending up or down in volume, then collaborate with Wholesale Specialists to craft targeted outreach plans that maximize units inspected and revenue generated.
  • • Champion safety and Lean culture every mile you drive. You’ll complete daily vehicle walk-arounds, wear required PPE, and follow all NAAA frame-structure guidelines. You’ll also identify waste in your own workflow—reducing keystrokes, photo retakes, or drive time—and share Kaizen ideas that improve the entire mobile network.
  • • Maintain meticulous daily activity reports that capture start/stop times, miles driven, units inspected, and any safety or customer concerns. These reports feed regional scorecards and help leadership forecast capacity, staffing, and training needs.
  • • Continuously expand your automotive knowledge. Whether it’s a new ADAS sensor, an electric drivetrain, or a redesigned unibody, you’ll stay current through Cox Automotive University courses, peer ride-alongs, and weekly virtual huddles. Your growing expertise translates into faster, more accurate inspections and higher customer confidence.
  • • Thrive in a remote-first role that still offers strong team connection. While you spend most days on the road solo, you’ll check in each morning via Microsoft Teams, share wins and roadblocks in real time, and celebrate collective milestones during monthly virtual town halls. You are never more than a chat message away from technical support or a friendly colleague.

🎯 Requirements

  • • High-school diploma or GED plus 3 years of professional experience; at least 1–2 years in any automotive role (dealer, body shop, mechanical, or detail) strongly preferred
  • • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable personal transportation capable of carrying inspection tools; willingness to travel 100% within the Columbus North territory
  • • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage your own route, and meet daily production targets
  • • Solid automotive knowledge—body, paint, mechanical, and basic electrical systems—and comfort identifying unibody vs. full-frame damage
  • • Physical capability to lift 30 lbs. at waist level, repeatedly crouch, bend, kneel, and reach under vehicles; near-vision acuity to spot dings, scratches, and paint flaws in varying light conditions

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive hourly pay of $14.90–$22.40 plus an annual incentive commission target of $6,000 based on units inspected and customer satisfaction scores
  • • Minimum 16 hours of paid time off accrued monthly, seven paid holidays, plus additional paid leave for bereavement, jury duty, voting, volunteering, military service, and parental bonding
  • • Comprehensive health care insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) retirement plan with company match, and flexible wellness days
  • • Mileage reimbursement program that scales with territory size, plus a monthly mobile data stipend to keep you connected on the road
  • • Career development through Cox Automotive University, tuition assistance, and defined pathways into Wholesale Specialist, Field Team Lead, or Regional Operations roles
