- • As a People Data Scientist focused on AI fairness and bias testing, you will help establish how OpenAI evaluates AI-assisted People systems and high-impact talent processes, ensuring fairness, validity, and accountability across the employee lifecycle.
- • You will design and conduct rigorous algorithmic audits, validation studies, and end-to-end evaluations of human-AI decision systems, including adverse-impact analysis, subgroup and intersectional testing, and measurement invariance, while identifying sources of disparity and recommending mitigations.
- • You will partner with engineering, People Operations, Legal, Privacy, Security, and People Systems teams to build scalable fairness-evaluation infrastructure, including automated pipelines, monitoring systems, and standardized reporting tools.
- • You will translate complex findings into decision-ready narratives for senior leaders, influencing talent strategy and AI system design through evidence-based judgment and clear communication.
- • OpenAI’s People team hires, engages, and retains world-class talent to safely build and deploy AGI that benefits all of humanity, with the People Analytics team enabling rigorous, evidence-based talent decisions.
- • You will deepen your expertise in responsible AI, psychometrics, causal inference, and organizational research while shaping fairness standards for high-impact AI systems in employment contexts.
- • This role offers the opportunity to lead innovative fairness testing strategies for generative and agentic AI, develop research documentation standards, and contribute to AI governance and ethical deployment at a frontier AI organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Deep expertise in algorithmic fairness, bias measurement, responsible AI, psychometrics, applied statistics, or evaluation of high-impact decision systems
- • Exceptional strength in research design, measurement, experimentation, causal inference, and statistical modeling
- • Hands-on experience applying methods such as subgroup and intersectional analysis, adverse-impact testing, equalized-odds, equal-opportunity, demographic-parity, calibration, counterfactual testing, measurement invariance, reliability analysis, and validation studies
- • High proficiency in Python or R and SQL, with experience working across complex, sensitive, and imperfect datasets
- • Ability to work effectively with technical, operational, legal, privacy, and executive stakeholders and influence consequential decisions through evidence and sound judgment
