📋 Description

• As a Principal Engineer at Masabi Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the company’s fare payment platform, which powers millions of journeys globally through the Justride platform used in over 250 locations.
• Day to day, you will design and evolve platform architecture, stay hands-on in code and technical delivery, review and contribute to scalable services, identify and resolve complex scalability, performance, resilience, and cost challenges, and act as a senior technical advisor across engineering teams.
• You will join Masabi’s Architecture team, a group of innovators dedicated to building fare collection platforms that enable seamless ticketing via mobile, ticket machines, or bank card taps, supporting partners like Uber, Moovit, and Transit while fostering a culture of openness, trust, and empowerment.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, cloud architecture (AWS preferred), data platforms, and API governance, while influencing technical roadmaps, improving architectural understanding across the business, and contributing to engineering standards and platform direction—all while advancing your leadership in a mission-driven environment focused on making transit fair and accessible.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong experience designing and evolving distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Experience operating at Principal or Staff level, shaping technical direction across multiple teams or domains
• Comfort staying hands-on, contributing in code, design, and delivery when needed
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern infrastructure practices
• Proven experience in data architecture (e.g. data platforms, pipelines, warehousing or data lakes)
• Ability to take loosely defined business or technical problems and turn them into clear, actionable technical approaches
• Clear communication of complex ideas and production of structured documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience contributing to engineering standards, architecture patterns, or platform direction
