Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end design of Docker’s container platform, shaping workflows, visual quality, and system coherence across Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.
  • • Distill complex developer workflows into elegant, opinionated design solutions that address real friction points experienced by millions of users.
  • • Collaborate directly with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, and researchers to define, prototype, and ship product experiences that developers trust and return to.
  • • Actively integrate AI tools into the design process for rapid prototyping, synthesis of user insights, and iterative development, ensuring a modern, agentic design workflow.
  • • Conduct and synthesize qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions, translating user feedback and behavior into actionable product direction.
  • • Challenge existing design approaches and advocate for improvements that enhance usability, clarity, and developer trust in Docker’s tooling.
  • • Mentor and coach staff and senior product designers, elevating the overall design practice and raising the bar for technical product design at Docker.
  • • Partner with senior leadership to align design strategy with Docker’s broader vision for the future of software development, especially as AI agents transform developer workflows.
  • • Build consensus across engineering, product, sales, and support teams to drive alignment on a shared product vision rooted in developer needs.
  • • Audit existing design work across the container platform to understand what has been tried, shipped, or abandoned, and identify opportunities for meaningful improvement.
  • • Shadow customer calls and engage directly with users to develop a ground-level understanding of how the platform is used in real-world scenarios.
  • • By week 3 of onboarding, share early, unpolished design thinking with the team to foster transparency and collaboration.
  • • By end of month one, articulate a directional point of view on the future of the container platform grounded in user insights and technical context.
  • • By 60 days, establish and document your AI-driven design workflow and align it with team practices.
  • • By one year, deliver a container platform that is unmistakably improved in workflow clarity, visual craft, and developer trust — with measurable impact traceable to your leadership.
  • • Act as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership on the future of Docker’s platform and product direction.
  • • Feed insights and design patterns back to the broader design team, demonstrating what principal-level work looks like in practice — not just in description.
  • • Maintain deep empathy for developers as end-users, understanding their frustrations with tooling on a personal level and advocating fiercely for solutions that reduce friction.
  • • Communicate complex technical concepts simply and effectively through written, verbal, and visual mediums without oversimplifying.
  • • Remain reflective, accountable, and ownership-oriented in all aspects of design delivery and team collaboration.
  • • Embrace feedback on your own work with humility and offer feedback to others generously and constructively.
  • • Operate with a learning mindset, continuously adapting to new technologies and evolving developer needs in the container and DevOps ecosystem.
