đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Principal Software Development Engineer at Autodesk, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of design and manufacturing software by contributing to a cutting-edge Design System. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team within the Platform organization of the Product Design and Manufacturing Solutions (PDMS) division, focusing on the software platform that powers the Fusion family of products.
  • • Your primary mission will be to build and maintain the software implementation of a Design System that ensures a consistent look and feel across Autodesk's entire product portfolio. This involves developing, troubleshooting, testing, and debugging React-based UI components, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • • You will be a hands-on engineer, dedicating approximately 70% of your time to coding and 30% to enabling and mentoring other engineers. This balance allows you to directly impact the product while also elevating the capabilities of the team.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves pioneering the use of AI-assisted engineering. You will be an expert practitioner, leveraging tools like Claude Console (preferred) or Cursor to enhance development speed and quality. Your responsibilities will include teaching your Scrum team best practices for AI usage, such as pairing, workshops, creating playbooks, holding office hours, and providing PR coaching.
  • • You will be instrumental in defining "done" criteria and quality gates for AI-generated code, ensuring required tests, review checklists, verification steps, and safe-usage guidelines are established and followed.
  • • This role requires a strong aptitude for brownfield development, including refactoring and modernizing existing codebases with minimal risk. You will develop incremental migration plans, ensure compatibility, and implement effective deprecation strategies.
  • • You will lead technical decision-making processes, authoring high-quality design documents and participating in design reviews both within your team and across other teams. A key part of this is enforcing established architectural and engineering standards, and proactively identifying and proposing changes to these standards when necessary.
  • • Conducting thorough code reviews is a critical responsibility, ensuring correctness, security, performance, and maintainability for your team's contributions and cross-team efforts.
  • • Collaboration is key. You will partner with QA, design, and product teams across different time zones, actively participating in Agile ceremonies and driving iterative delivery. Engaging with customers to understand complex issues and translating those learnings into product improvements, including fixes, guardrails, and documentation, will be essential.
  • • You will champion and teach AI-assisted development best practices, creating and maintaining team playbooks for AI-driven brownfield refactors, test generation, debugging, spec-writing, and accessibility checks.
  • • The role demands strong fundamentals in responsive UI design, accessibility standards, and performance optimization for React applications and libraries. You will ensure that the Design System components are not only functional but also inclusive and performant.
  • • You will report to a Senior Software Development Manager based in Portland, Oregon, but the position is remote, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from anywhere in Ontario, Canada.
  • • This is an opportunity to contribute to a globally recognized leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software, helping to build a better world through innovative technology.
