  • • As Principal Software Engineer for SandboxAQ’s AQMed initiative, you will serve as the Technical Lead for a next-generation, non-invasive cardiac diagnostic platform, owning the end-to-end software architecture from embedded Linux devices to cloud data pipelines and clinician-facing web applications, ensuring the technical foundation supports scalable commercialization, regulatory compliance, and future AI model integration.
  • • You will drive system architecture and technical strategy by owning the platform architecture as the final technical authority, designing a future-proof, HIPAA-compliant data platform that anticipates needs like EMR integration, fleet management, and federated learning, while ensuring design outputs meet medical device requirements without compromising patient safety or innovation velocity.
  • • In execution and quality leadership, you will lead adherence to IEC 62304 and ISO 14971 standards, write and review code, debug hardware-software integration in the lab, configure CI/CD pipelines, and mentor senior engineers to uphold technical excellence, psychological safety, and rigorous validation practices.
  • • You will bridge cross-functional collaboration by translating clinical and product goals into engineering specifications, aligning software capabilities with regulatory pathways (510(k)/De Novo), and ensuring seamless coordination between engineering, clinical, and regulatory teams to accelerate time-to-market.
  • • This role offers the opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a regulated medical device startup emerging from Alphabet, where you will gain deep expertise in SaMD commercialization, work at the intersection of AI and clinical innovation, and build systems that directly impact patient outcomes while advancing your leadership in high-stakes, regulated software engineering.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 4 years as a Technical Lead or Architect for complex, distributed systems
  • • Proven experience delivering regulated medical device software (IEC 62304 Class B/C) through full lifecycle, including 510(k)/De Novo/PMA submission and post-market support
  • • Proficiency in modern systems languages (Rust, C++, Go) and Python, with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • • Experience designing HIPAA/GDPR-compliant systems, including encryption, audit logging, and secure data transmission
  • • Product-aware mindset with demonstrated ability to make architectural trade-offs favoring long-term flexibility and user experience
