Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end encoding of real-world process engineering workflows into Candid’s AI layer. You will translate every step of FEED and Detailed Design—from PFD and P&ID development through heat-and-material-balance validation, simulation runs, relief-valve sizing, hydraulic calculations, line sizing, and datasheet preparation—into repeatable, automatable logic that cuts preconstruction time by an order of magnitude.
- • Map the invisible rework loops that plague EPC projects. By shadowing live projects and mining historical data, you will pinpoint where inconsistencies arise between PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, and vendor packages; quantify the cost of each loop; and design guardrails so the AI flags or fixes mismatches before they propagate downstream.
- • Serve as the single source of truth for cross-discipline interface points. You will define how process deliverables hand off to Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams, then embed those handoff rules into the product so engineers no longer chase missing line lists or mismatched nozzle specs.
- • Build and curate a living library of process standards. Translate API, ASME, NFPA, ISA, and client-specific specs into structured requirements that the AI can reference automatically—turning static PDFs into dynamic, context-aware checklists.
- • Run iterative simulation experiments to validate automation logic. Using Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or equivalent tools, you will stress-test the AI’s calculations against real plant data, refine models for edge cases (e.g., high-pressure sour gas, cryogenic LNG, supercritical CO₂), and publish regression benchmarks that prove accuracy.
- • Mentor early-career engineers and cross-functional teammates. While your primary mission is encoding expertise, you will also run internal workshops on relief-system modeling, flare-header hydraulics, and best-practice P&ID reviews—leveling up the entire company’s process IQ.
- • Champion a culture of ruthless documentation and version control. Every heuristic you capture, every assumption you make, and every deviation you approve will be logged in a traceable format so future engineers—and the AI—can audit decisions without hunting through email threads.
- • Collaborate directly with product, design, and ML teams. You will translate complex engineering constraints into crisp user stories, review UI mocks for technical accuracy, and provide labeled datasets that enable the ML group to train models on real P&ID markups and simulation outputs.
- • Influence the product roadmap with data-driven insights. By measuring cycle times, error rates, and cost impacts across pilot deployments, you will prioritize which workflows to automate next and quantify ROI for prospective EPC partners.
- • Represent Candid at industry conferences and client steering committees. Your credibility as a seasoned process engineer will open doors to pilot projects with major LNG, refinery, and power EPCs, accelerating adoption and shaping industry standards.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years in process engineering roles at an EPC, PMC, or large owner-operator with direct involvement in FEED and Detailed Design phases
- • Demonstrated mastery of PFD and P&ID development, including symbology, line class definitions, and instrumentation tagging per ISA-5.1
- • Hands-on experience running steady-state and dynamic simulations in Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, PRO/II, or equivalent
- • Working knowledge of API, ASME B31.3, NFPA 30/58/59A, ISA, and similar codes with ability to cite specific clauses that govern relief, hydraulics, and safety systems
- • Proven ability to spot cross-discipline inconsistencies—e.g., nozzle loads on datasheets that exceed allowable piping stresses—and drive resolution
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive base salary plus meaningful equity in a well-funded seed-stage startup backed by Schneider Electric and Meta’s Chief AI Scientist
- • Unlimited PTO policy built on trust—we believe great engineering requires downtime and deep thinking
- • Premium health, dental, and vision insurance with 100% employee coverage and generous dependent subsidies
- • $150 monthly wellness stipend for gym memberships, fitness classes, meditation apps, or any activity that keeps you at peak performance
