📋 Description

• Own product design work end to end, partnering with product managers and engineers to define complex problems in sales tax, VAT, and GST domains and ship experiences that improve key metrics like activation, time-to-first-filing, registration completion, and customer-reported confidence.
• Start design processes in LLMs like Claude to clarify ambiguous tax workflows, draft short product requirements, and surface edge cases such as nexus thresholds, marketplace facilitator rules, exemption certificates, and retroactive registrations to align the team quickly.
• Conduct self-serve customer research by directly talking to controllers, AP leads, and founders of ecommerce, SaaS, and digital businesses to validate concepts—treating research as a velocity tool rather than a gate.
• Prototype interactions using AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code to build and iterate on flows against real product surfaces, guiding structure and UX quality while partnering with engineers to determine what moves into production.
• Translate validated concepts into Figma designs with full state coverage, system alignment, and production readiness, including complex tax-specific edge states like jurisdiction conflicts, filing errors, and amendment flows.
• Design for the 80/20 rule by encoding deep tax complexity beneath the surface through Numeral’s internal tax engine, Minerva, while maintaining a simple, intuitive default experience for the majority of users.
• Contribute to design culture by sharing prompts, patterns, and learnings; actively participate in design crits and reviews to elevate the team’s craft and consistency.
• Build and refine design systems that support dense, data-heavy tax interfaces, ensuring scalability and coherence across product surfaces with hundreds of jurisdictional rules.
• Collaborate directly with engineers, product managers, and customers to ensure design decisions are grounded in real user needs and technical feasibility.
• Iterate on shipped features through continuous observation of adoption and performance, refining flows based on real-world usage data and customer feedback.
• Maintain a strong focus on outcomes over artifacts—measuring success by user impact and business metrics, not just deliverables or visual polish.
• Work in an AI-first design environment where LLMs are integrated into every stage of the workflow—from ideation and prototyping to documentation and validation—redefining traditional designer workflows.
• Translate highly regulated, systems-heavy tax compliance requirements into accessible, confident user experiences that reduce anxiety and increase efficiency for finance and accounting teams.
• Balance deep domain complexity with intuitive UI design, ensuring that even the most intricate tax rules are handled seamlessly under the hood while the user interface remains simple and predictable.
• Ship features with full ownership from problem definition through launch and long-term iteration, not handoff.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience as a product designer on complex products, ideally in B2B, fintech, accounting, or other systems-heavy environments
• Ownership of projects from problem definition through launch and iteration
• Active use of LLMs like Claude or ChatGPT in your design workflow
• Comfort in Cursor or Claude Code, even if not writing production code by hand
• A portfolio that shows strong product thinking, interaction design, and craft on dense, data-heavy surfaces
• Ability to work with PMs to define success metrics and adjust based on results
