Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As Kernel Medical Devices, Inc.'s inaugural Product Designer for Core Product, you will be instrumental in shaping the user experience of our groundbreaking AI-powered company data platform. This is a foundational role offering end-to-end ownership, empowering you to define and deliver exceptional UX for our core product.
- • Your primary mission is to distill complexity into simplicity. You will be responsible for transforming a powerful, data-intensive enterprise solution into an effortless and intuitive experience for our RevOps teams. This involves crafting clearer workflows, developing sharper mental models for users, minimizing decision fatigue, and ultimately instilling greater confidence in their use of Kernel's platform.
- • You will lead the entire design process for core product features, encompassing user flows, information architecture, interaction design, and visual execution. This requires a holistic approach, ensuring that every touchpoint is considered and optimized for usability and impact.
- • A significant part of your role will involve ground-truth discovery. You will independently initiate and conduct user interviews, rapidly synthesize findings, and translate these insights into tangible, shipped product improvements. This iterative process of understanding user needs and delivering solutions is central to the role.
- • You will be expected to prototype rapidly and effectively, leveraging a variety of tools such as Figma, v0, or Figma Make, choosing the method that best yields high-signal prototypes for validation and iteration.
- • Collaboration with engineering and product management will be paramount. You will work in tight loops, ensuring high-quality design implementation in production and facilitating rapid iteration cycles based on user feedback and performance data.
- • A key responsibility will be to establish the design foundation for Kernel. This includes defining design principles, creating reusable patterns, and developing a lightweight design system. Crucially, this must be achieved without impeding the team's velocity, ensuring that design infrastructure supports, rather than hinders, rapid development.
- • While the focus is on core product design, you will also contribute to other areas as needed, dedicating approximately 5% of your time to tasks such as assisting with pitch decks or narrative development when it directly benefits the business. This demonstrates the breadth of impact expected in this role.
- • We are seeking individuals who have a proven track record of shipping meaningful product work and can articulate their design decisions, the rationale behind them, and the resulting outcomes. Your ability to demonstrate impact through your portfolio and past projects is more important than years of experience.
- • You must possess a strong aptitude for simplifying complex problems, going beyond superficial UI polishing to address fundamental usability and workflow challenges. Your solutions should make intricate processes feel straightforward and manageable.
- • The capacity to independently run discovery processes, uncover user needs, and arrive at actionable insights is essential. This autonomy in research and synthesis is a core expectation.
- • You will be expected to move quickly, communicate with exceptional clarity, and collaborate seamlessly with engineers. A proactive and agile approach is vital in our fast-paced environment.
- • A keen eye for detail and strong execution skills are required, from the initial prototype to the final production details. This encompasses both aesthetic sensibility and a deep understanding of interaction design principles.
- • This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, is comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, and enjoys iterative development cycles with frequent releases. If you prefer long, drawn-out processes with infrequent major reveals, this role may not be the best fit.
- • While we offer flexibility, this role requires a significant in-person presence in our central London office to foster rapid collaboration and innovation. We believe that moving faster together in person is key to our success.
