Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As the first dedicated Product Designer for mobile at Aphex Technologies Inc., you will own the end-to-end design of Diary, our production tracking and record capture product, which drives 80% of mobile usage and represents our biggest revenue lever for 2026. Your work will directly impact whether construction teams adopt and value our platform, transforming how field workers in PPE, on shared tablets, and in low-connectivity environments interact with critical project data.
- • You will lead mobile feature design from initial briefing through to shipped UI, defining interaction patterns that feel native and considered for real-world constraints like gloved hands, outdoor visibility, shared devices, and patchy connectivity. Collaborating closely with Flutter engineers, you will ensure designs translate faithfully into implementation, bridging the quality gap between our high-bar web experience and mobile to deliver a cohesive, pride-inducing product.
- • You will partner daily with Product Managers to scope features using real user context from construction sites, while working with engineers to review builds, catch issues pre-ship, and advocate for quality by saying 'this isn't right yet' when needed. Your role extends beyond execution—you will shape what gets built, visit sites to observe workflows, and push back when designs don’t meet our bar for usability and resilience in industrial environments.
- • A core responsibility will be evolving Aphex’s design system, particularly mobile components, in collaboration with the Head of UX to establish standards and quality benchmarks. You will ensure consistency across web and mobile where it counts, helping mature our design practice as we scale from 'we have an app' to 'we have an experience worth paying for' in the mobile space.
- • In this role, you will gain deep expertise in designing for industrial, field-based users in vertical SaaS/B2B contexts, directly influencing the product strategy of a high-growth area. You’ll work closely with the Head of UX and the CEO (acting Head of Product), gaining strategic influence and a clear path toward Senior Designer or Mobile Design Lead as the team and product surface expand. You’ll also contribute to a remote-first, async-friendly culture that values ownership, problem-solving, and genuine enjoyment in tackling hard challenges together.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating mobile expertise across iOS, Android, or cross-platform platforms
- • Proven ability to design for complex workflows, not just simple consumer apps, with solid interaction design skills covering flows, states, and edge cases
- • Comfort working within platform constraints—understanding that a design that can’t be built isn’t a good design—and experience navigating the full design process from exploration to QA
- • Remote-first mindset: skilled at clear written communication and giving/receiving feedback asynchronously across time zones
- • Flutter experience or understanding of cross-platform mobile constraints (highly valued)
- • Experience designing for field workers, industrial users, or non-desk environments (highly valued)
🏖️ Benefits
- • Remote-first role with flexible working hours and async collaboration across UK, Europe, and Australia time zones
- • Opportunity to be the first dedicated mobile designer, defining what 'good' looks like and shaping the future of our highest-growth product area
- • Annual team offsite (e.g., 2025 in Da Nang, Vietnam) with 2026 location planned—you’ll join us to connect in person and see where we’re headed
- • Clear path to Senior Designer or Mobile Design Lead as the team and product surface grow, with direct access to Head of UX and CEO (acting Head of Product)
- • Work on meaningful problems that impact real-world infrastructure—building tools construction teams are genuinely proud to use on sites delivering roads, rail, tunnels, and hospitals
- • Join a small, senior team that takes ownership, focuses on quality, and genuinely enjoys solving hard problems together in a culture of genuine collaboration
